Recordings: Smear - demo (1998); Winter - single (2000); Extreme Hardcore - album (2002)
History:
Smear began in 1998 as a solo project for Mike. A 10 song demo was recorded and distributed among local and national radio stations, several music related websites, and many, many people. Soon, several local stations were giving airtime to Smear, yet there was still no band to perform live. Websites such as music.com and audiogalaxy.com featured Smear as unsigned artist of the week, and of the month, respectively.
Smear evolved into a complete lineup in 2000, featuring Cody Stumpo on bass, Eric Z (Braillehouse) on vocals, and a revolving lineup of drummers, including Lem Joyner (Klutch Steel), Adam Goldstone, and Jamie Surgener. Eric Z left to concentrate more on his other band, and Tim Howitt (Eden Seed, Penumbrae) joined us on lead vocals. Smear arranged and recorded "Winter", and released it as a single in December of 2000. Other songs were recorded for an E.P., but never released.
In 2001 and 2002, the band underwent more changes, finally completing itself with the lineup of Frank "Jonah" Turner on vocals, Carl Yute (Jettison Red) on bass, and Jamie Surgener on drums. While recording the full length album "Extreme Hardcore", Sm3ar disbanded. Later, this same lineup would resurface as "The Syndicate", with one added member, Frank's brother Jay on guitar.
