Awesome news! Paramount has retracted its claim against "10 Things I Hate About Commandments"! The original link has been restored.
Our video was saved thanks to friends like you and generous support from the Electronic Frontier Foundation. EFF is a nonprofit group of passionate people — lawyers, technologists, volunteers, and visionaries — working to protect digital rights. It was with their help that we learned that Viacom, Paramount's parent company, had established an e-mail and website "hotline" that allowed users to challenge a takedown of their video. Viacom had pledged to steer clear of taking down videos containing their copyrighted material where "the use or copy is occasional and is a creative, newsworthy, or transformative use of a limited excerpt for noncommercial purposes."
You can learn more about it here:
Following the hotline procedure, we were able to notify Viacom that we felt our video was taken down in error according to the guidelines they had established. Viacom replied within 4 days and the video was promptly restored.
Thanks again to all our friends-- particularly Steven Gonzalez and Chandler Evans -- and the EFF for helping us defend our work. EFF is a donor-funded nonprofit and depends on your support to continue successfully defending your digital rights. Please visit their website and consider donating. If you got in touch with Steve and Chandler, they'd probably take donations too :)
A quick solo promo piece by Mike for Fanlib and StarTrek.com! Produced by Smacky Productions' pal Chandler Evans and his outfit, Vayabobo. (Vayabobo serves as host for all of Smacky's videos on Youtube...)
