I'm not "in the industry" but I've made one feature film and I'm working on the next one. The best advice I can give is to just go get a video camera and editing software, write a script, and cast your friends. Usually your first few attempts won't come out how you hoped, but you can get more knowledge out of making a movie than you can out of ten books on the subject.

me and nik stik met the neighbors that live behind us, and i was supposed to fight one of them one on one, but then some other fucker blindsided me and they started kickin me in the face, so nik tried to pull them off of me and they did the same to him, we got fucked up
At least we aren't getting chased by a giant mace in which case we'd have to face the discrace of this place which was destroyed without a trace of the human race.
