We happily announce the formation of the volunteer not for profit group Small Stages, Inc., brought together to sponsor a series of house concerts in the Birmingham AL area. Through the cooperation of homeowners, and the imaginative use of other suitable premises, we schedule an appealing lineup of original acoustic artists, presenting them in warm, intimate, smoke-free settings. Solo, duo, and small group performers relish the idea of playing informally to a few dozen focused listeners, and anyone who has attended a house concert will tell you that it's an experience like no other.

House concerts are regaining the popularity they enjoyed briefly a decade ago, when music lovers realized the benefits of bringing live music into their own homes to share with friends. The performers are typically traveling between club and concert dates on their regular schedule, and are happy for the chance to play casually in a private home in exchange for accommodations, donations, and direct CD sales. It's an even better arrangement for the listener, who gets to hear and meet these players on a very personal level, experiencing their talents, free of distractions, in the purest form possible. Everybody benefits--- artists expand their fan base, the audience gets exposed to the best new music, friends are made all around.

If you have a large room in your home that might hold 40-50 people, and parking's not a huge problem in your neighborhood, perhaps you can host your own concert... we'll be glad to suggest possible performers, help you with the details, and get the word out to those who'd like to support it. Our objective is to keep new music coming to town, and to make sure it gets heard by the people who appreciate it most.
