Born in the early 70's, Kris was raised in a musically diverse Philadelphia
household by a young Bohemian couple soon to be faced with the converging
horror of the Blue Collar Destiny that lie before them. Pumping out of
the stereo at any given time were the harmonies of The Beatles, open
sexuality from the Rolling Stones, folk prophecies from Bob Dylan, thinly
veiled sexual connotations of the Doors, or the psychedelic pre-prog rock of
Iron Butterfly and Quicksilver Messenger Service. This surely would
influence the future songwriter's delicate, malleable ears, just not quite
yet.
Sure he loved to sit by the Hi-Fi with the LP's spinning constantly, but
Kris' young life revolved around any sports activity with the local
children. Whether it was Basketball, Football, or Street Hockey, he was
involved. Although a bit doughy by his own admittance, he tried his best to
hold his own, yet always seemed to be "odd man out". That is, except for
the strategic games that he would beg the kids to play.
Sure "Freedom" was a game played by most kids, under various different
names, but even as the youthful shouts of "Olly Olly Oxen Free!" rang
through the neighborhood, Kris was secretly both dreading, and anticipating
his favorite game, "Hide The Belt". This is a game in which the group of
kids hid behind a corner, and one single child went to hide a leather
belt(sans buckle) around the block. Then everyone would hurriedly rush
around the block, being guided by the Beltmaster's coaxing of "hot" or
"cold". The objective was to be the first kid to find the belt, and then
beat the Tar out of the others until they all reached "base" around the
corner. Then the current belt-finder became the Beltmaster for the next
round. Repeat until welted, or dinner time, whichever came first.
Around the age of 12 Kris began to realize that around Holidays his
Mother's 2 younger brothers would sit around, and play guitar with their
Father. Mesmerized by the strumming, warm sounds of the acoustic guitars,
and his familiarity of songs that they could produce, started Kris on the
incline to musical interest, and subsequently the decline of sports-related
activities. Beside their inane musical talent, Kris' relatives were also
humorous individuals, and there was always a smiling face when all would be
present. This too would help shape young Kristoffer's personality, and
general outlook on Life.
As time moved on, Kris' family expanded to include 2 brothers, whom would
play a very important, supportive and inspirational role in his life. His
musical tastes grew as well. Performance skills were obtained by constant
practice, then moved on to doing stints in many Philadelphia teenaged
bands. Personal skills were honed by palling around with his siblings, and
impressing humor onto those he met. The hair grew, the guitars became
electrified, and much pointier than the teaching tool of the acoustic.
This too, as wise men say, would pass.
Flash forward to present day. Through the years Kris has grown, lived,
learned, and on occasion broken down and cried his eyes out. All leading
him to an eventual goal: Be the best person you can be in all facets of
life. Sure, we all fail from time to time, but Kris attempts to someday
reach the point where he feels he can stop, but not quite yet.
Sometimes inspiring, sometimes headstrong, moderately stubborn, but always
as true to himself as he could possibly be. Bringing with him the
experiences in both musical and personal life, Kris' songwriting attempts
to reflect every part of his life, sharing secrets, telling tales that ring
true for most, and painfully shedding light on topics/situations others shy
away from, all while trying to create the Ideal pop song.
Kris Margiotta continues to further his musical growth with quiet personal times involving the artist and his first love, his acoustic guitar
