Mike Lastra has been operating Smegma Studios from a secret bunker on the fringes of Portland since the dawn of time and birth of rock n roll itself. But seriously, in the 30+ years that Mike has been recording, he has had the pleasure of working with Portland's finest musicians. Mike, and assistant engineer, Mark, feel privileged to record the best of what Portland has to offer. ( as well as other places too...!). Currently available as mediums of capture are the 16 track (Tascam MS-16) and 24 track (Studer A80) analog tape machines, and the ubiquitous Macintosh/Pro Tools combo. Using choice gear that Mike has collected over the years, Smegma Studios captures a band at its most raw and real, in an inspiring environment by unpretentious people who care. no plug-in can model that. Whether it be Improv, Noise, Rock and Roll, Country, Punk, Bluegrass, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Black Metal, Pop, Indie, or Klezmer, Mike and Mark have pretty much tracked it all.
