Long Island's own Smile Pretty Misery won't ever be accused of doing anything halfway. Case in point: when lead singer Jaymes Welsh and guitarist Al Domingo agreed to play a last-minute show at a friend's birthday party, the duo enlisted drummer Chris Bonacorsa and bassist Mike Bayer and put together a five-song set almost overnight. A smash hit at that birthday party, guests asked for the band's CDs and mailing list. But they didn't even have a name yet.
The four musical friends immediately realized they had something special: a group of true musicians with a penchant for songwriting and a passion for the extraordinary. Combining pop, rock and soul with an indie twist, Smile Pretty Misery has something almost everyone can relate to.
All experienced performers, Jaymes, Al, Mike and Chris bring an undeniable chemistry to their stage show. What began as a simple set evolved into a full-time project as the band began making waves, and the band set out to record its first album in May of 2007. Among their influences are Jeff Buckley, Fiona Apple, Death Cab for Cutie, John Mayer, Jimi Hendrix, Ben Folds, and U2, as well as both jazz and classical music.
Known for their eclectic mix of acoustic and electric guitars, Smile Pretty Misery has a total package that satisfies the music scene's ever-changing demand for something new and compelling.

:( Ok Let me just say how upset I am that I am not in Patchogue right now! With my car situation (i have none) I didn't have a vechicle until 715 but by that time I wouldn't have made it. I know I'm full of excuses. I'm sorry. But I showered and look really pretty. Sigh
I feel like a Meatloaf song.
I'm like the worst fan but I love you boys always!
Next up in the lobby: SMILEPRETTYMISERY and special guest MIKE JASON plus the Songwriter Spotlight featuring Andrew Fortier and Joe Iadanza - MARCH 6 at 7PM.
I can't wait to get the CD done and do some shows where I can hopefully meet some of you.
I wish I had a time machine and could blast forward and start doing shows tomorrow.
PS. TWO GUITAR PLAYERS WANTED... Make That One Now!!!
The new material we are working on will have a guitarmony sound and will require three players. We are looking for one player who lives in the Detroit Metro area.
What we are looking for:
1. Age 18 to 27 2. Must be a great player. 3. Studio and Live experience a plus. 4. Style of music is pop/rock/alternative/punk 5. Style is a cross between 30 Seconds To Mars, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Muse, Garbage, and The Used with strong commercial appeal. 6. Lead or Backing vocal capabilities a plus. 7. Ability to write guitar parts for existing melody lines. 8. Must have time to make a commitment and be available for studio and live shows. Currently rehearsals are scheduled on Sunday between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. 9. Will require learning a certain amount of filler cover material. 10. If you have drug or alcohol related issues this probably wouldn't work for you.
A label showcase is scheduled for late February - so time is of the essence.
If you or someone you know is what we are looking for. Please let me know so we can set up a studio audition.
I've been diggin' the tunes for a long time now (gosh, maybe a year or two!). GREAT stuff, guys! I lurves me some You Gotta Love Her... the smooth voice, the jazzy guitar, the vibraphone... one of these days, I'll get up to NY to see y'all in person!
Thank you for adding me. I really, really like your music. I think folk rock is a great style of music, reminds me a little of James Taylor and to me he's a God...
so, definitely want to go this Friday...but a question about the 22nd...is there more info? like cover and such? cause my friend's birthday is the next day and we're all trying to find a place to go...I'll check out the website too but I was just wondering :)
