Phoebe Ashmore is a chameleon, a wraith, an award winning film composer and an artist. Phoebe Ashmore can paint, write screenplays, create music and perform. She does not, however, act for anyone under any circumstance!
She composed music for the Award Winning feature length film, Among Dead Men- brought to you by the Award Winning team of El Pistolero Del Diablo. [Visit the Pistolero site.] Phoebe Ashmore stuck her greasy fingers all over the music for the "past" sequence of the short and butchered all styles to create an amalgamation of emotions. It worked and the featurette took the award and allowed an unopposed entry into the next competition, which also took awards home. (Some people also acted in this, others directed and some edited, but they aren't as cool... !)
Phoebe Ashmore can play lots of things. She especially likes the ukulele and the recorder, because they're more annoying than any other instrument. Especially when intentionally played out of tune. One such example is the soundtrack for Among Dead Men where out of tune ukulele was the basis of one of the underscores to create unease. No ukuleles were harmed in the recording process, unfortunately.
You should all buy a Ukulele. And Egg Shakers.
Review:
Upon listening to Phoebe Ashmore’s EP Acoustica of the Midnight Ocean, one may not exactly be certain of how to describe her music. In only five songs, she manages to genre-hop quite seamlessly, mixing reflective, soulful pop with folk, modern rock, and at times one almost hears electronic beats, which Ashmore says is just an illusion. Just when you think you have the basic melody of a song in your head, a smaller, more intricate melody appears and surprises you all over again.
You can download Acoustica of the Midnight Ocean from MP3.com. Phoebe Ashmore used to be onewaynotgrrl.
