In 2001, SmokeBox emerged from the music scene with a 5 song E.P. containing the in-your-face single Say It Now. The next year saw the bands full-length debut pressed and distributed by Statue Records out of Lomita, California and promoted by Skateboard Marketing out of New York. The bands debut CD charted in the top 50 of CMJ, and got airplay on radio stations through out the US and beyond. The release charted in the top 10 of many college stations, including there hometown station WRBC. SmokeBox released a 4 song EP entitled By Definition in March of 2005 and a 6 song EP entitled Cuntree Musik in April 2006. Later in 2006, SmokeBox released the full length CD entitled The Beat Down Commences, which again cemented the band as a force to be reckoned with in the music scene.
SmokeBox has received attention from numerous music outlets including Garageband.com, where there first single Cold received such awards as Best Male Vocals, Best Bass, Best Guitars, Best Lyrics, Best Melody, Best Beat, Best Mood, and more. Other songs off the EP received awards as well, including Track of the day and Track of the week.
SmokeBox is a band of music fans for the fans who believe in grass roots promotion. The band is very motivated and dedicated and has personally handed out over 1000 CDR copies of their Cuntree Musik EP to fans. The band hopes to spread the word on SmokeBox, and break the mold of being from the little known state of Maine.
Now, after a long 2 year creative hiatus, SmokeBox is back with its strongest line up yet, new material, and a new found appreciation and dedication to their music. The band is hard working and willing to do whatever it takes to bring SmokeBox music to the masses.
