It was not by chance that Alessandro Soresini (drums, vocals, production), Gianluca Pelosi (bass guitar, production) and Marco Zaghi (sax, flutes, production) got together in September 2004 and gave birth to the “Smoke” project. These three musicians had performed in several well known bands like the REGGAE NATIONAL TICKETS, NEFFA, 88TASTI, RADICAL STUFF and many others. A long experience in Jamaica and Europe led them to found a band named “SMOKE” and record its homonym album. After several live tours and five albums recorded for the REGGAE NATIONAL TICKETS, Soresini and Zaghi are officially invited to the Montigo Bay’s Reggae Sunfest in 2000. This makes one of their dreams come true; the experience in Jamaica allows them to consolidate working relationships and friendships with artists, producers and managers not only coming from Jamaica. Soresini decides to stay on the island and share the opportunity with Alberto “Alborosie” D’Ascola of taking part in a project called ADELANTE that, under the supervision of John Baker, Gee Street Records, Geejam Studios, gathers international musicians, among which Ki-Many Marley. During a year spent in Portantonio, Soresini establishes a good working relationship with John Baker at GeeJam Studios where he has the chance of playing with several well known artists. That’s where he meets the Afro-German artist named Zoe Mazah whom he collaborates with under Alborosie’s supervision. All drums in Zoe’s album “Exile African” are played by Soresini. Zoe will soon after receive two Germans Reggae Awards for best female artist and best video-clip. This artistic communion continues: in fact Zoe is invited to Italy to work on a song called “Ciao Amore” which subsequently becomes the first single to be taken from SMOKE’s Lp. The album will be released on June 1st for V2 Records. Back in Italy, Soresini collaborates with artists like Giuliano Palma, Neffa and Raymond Wright, a very talent Jamaican singer. Soresini’s collaboration with bass-guitarist Gianluca Pelosi, who had already played in several important occasions with groups like REALIZE, ONEBLOOD, BUYAKA, occurs during a tour with Raymond. This natural evolution and artistic research is later completed when Maestro Marco Zaghi joins the gang. Zaghi boasts more than thirty records made as instrumentalist and arranger (Leonard Jonson ex Temptation, Jerry Dugery, Laurel Aitken, Ganjamama, Franziska, Dave Baker and other well known artists). His great experience allows SMOKE to start from a solid base. The numerous foreign collaborations push SMOKE to a more international stylistic approach, which marks the whole project. Both the Italian and foreign market are among SMOKE’s goals. With these convictions Soresini, Zaghi and Pelosi bring life to the project, a rhythmic and melodic symbiosis which merge into the deep expression of their artistic vein. Most of the lyrics and melodies are written by Andre T. Halyard aka Dre Love from New York. Before his collaboration with SMOKE, Dre worked with many well known Italian artists such as the RADICAL STUFF, IRENE GRANDI, ALMAMEGRETTA, RNT and others, his contribution to the album completes the job giving it an original flavour and sound which characterize this project. Those who participated in the process of realization of this album are all musicians of great prestige: Patrick Benifei (Italy), pianist and vocalist (CASINO ROYALE, BLUE BEATERS, NEFFA, RNT). Besides having played in most of the songs on the album Patrick’s composed and sung “Make it grow”; Eggy Vezzano (Italy), guitarist (ANDY J FOREST, TONY GREEN, SONNIE RHODES, BEVERLY WATSON); Fabio Merigo (Italy), guitarist (RNT, BLUE BEATERS, MR TBONE, TRICARICO); Gianca Jacono (Italy), Hammond player, pianist (HARTUR MILES, WELL TURNER, MURVA WRIGHT); Zoe Mazah (Germany), renown reggae artist, wrote the lyrics for “Ciao Amore”; Raymond Wrigth (Jamaica), collaborated in writing “Jah Love”; Blessed (Jamaiaca), wrote the lyrics for “Dem to chat and Rock with me”; Alborosie aka Stena (Jamaica) - Alberto D’ Ascola, RNT’s ex lead singer, composed and sang “Angel”, played guitars, keyboards, bass-guitars and followed production for Blessed’s voice recordings. The whole album was mixed by Alborosie and Andrew Seidel (from Germany) at GEEJAM STUDIOS in Jamaica. Smoke’s sounds and rhythms range from reggae-roots to soul, blues, etc…: sweet and sensual passages give space to more catchy ones where the rap lines merge with incisive melodies which can easily be appreciated by those who are not too familiar with reggae music. SMOKE’s encounter with Séan Daniel Martin is another fortunate meeting. Sean’s a singer, rapper, eclectic artist and one of the founders of the Italian hip hop scene. In the late 80s he and other representative names of this culture, such as Dj Skizo, Dj Gruff, Top Cat and Kaos, found the RADICAL STUFF, first group to make a hip hop record in Italy. Sean’s dedicated great part of his life studying the "4 disciplines" or the 4 forms of art and expression which hip hop culture is based on : B.Boying (breaking), Writing (graffiti), Djing and Mcing (Rap) becoming a point of reference for many people who follow this artistic and cultural movement . Along his walk he gets to meet many internationally well-known artists such as Keith Harring, Phase 2, Aone, Toxic, Coor, Mode2, Next One from Rock's Steady Crew , Africa Bambaataa, Gang Starr, US3, Shaggy, Beasty boys, Donald D. and many others, some of which he occasionally collaborates with, either for fun or work. Sean is also THE DINING ROOMS’ lead singer. This group’s albums are worldwide distributed and their single TUNNEL was considered by Giles Peterson (BBC - RADIO 1) one of the 50 best songs made in 2003. Sean’s now joined the SMOKE and has become their lead singer. Another fundamental presence on stage is guitar player and back-vocalist Cesare "Cesarone" Nolli’s. Cesare is a very talented musician: author, guitarist, drummer, bass-guitarist (NEFFA, MOKA). Marco Zaghi is supported by Riccardo Gibertini (FRANZISKA, 88 TASTI, BLUE BEATERS’ records, AFRICA UNITE) on the trumpet, a brass-section alchemy built with years of experiences and live-tours with RNTickets and other important names.

Nasce nel settembre 2004 il progetto Smoke, dall'incontro non casuale di tre musicisti: Alessandro Soresini (batterie, voci, production), Gianluca Pelosi (basso, production) e Marco Zaghi (sax, flauti, production), che già avevano militato in band di rilievo quali REGGAE NATIONAL TICKETS, NEFFA, 88TASTI, RADICAL STUFF.... Forti delle esperienze passate in Giamaica e in Europa, decidono di realizzare l'omonimo disco. Soresini e Zaghi, dopo aver suonato nei cinque dischi per RNTickets (rispettivamente batteria e sax) e nelle relative tourne', vengono ufficialmente invitati a partecipare al Reggae Sunfest a Montigo Bay nel 2000, coronando così un sogno; l'esperienza in Jamaica permette loro di consolidare rapporti lavorativi e di amicizia con artisti, produttori e manager non solo jamaicani. Soresini decide di rimanere sull’isola, cogliendo l'occasione con Alberto "Alborosie" D'Ascola di collaborare al progetto ADELANTE che, sotto la supervisione di John Baker, Gee Street Record, Geejam Studios, riunisce musicisti internazionali, tra cui Ki-Many Marley. Nell'anno trascorso a Portantonio al GeeJam Studios Soresini intreccia un valido rapporto lavorativo con John Baker, che gli consente numerose collaborazioni con artisti di grande rilievo. Ed è proprio lì che conosce l'artista afro-tedesca Zoe Mazah e registra, sotto la supervisione e la produzione di Alborosie, tutte le batterie del fortunato album Exile African che consente a Zoe di ricevere due German Reggae Awards come miglior artista femminile e per il miglior videoclip. La comunione artistica con Zoe non si fermerà qui: infatti sarà invitata in Italia per partecipare alla stesura delle liriche del brano Ciao Amore, primo singolo estratto dell’omonimo album degli SMOKE, in uscita il 1 giugno per V2 Records. Tornato in Italia, Soresini collabora in studio ed in tour con artisti quali Giuliano Palma, Neffa e Raymond Wright, cantante jamaicano di grande talento: si inaugura il sodalizio basso-batteria con Gianluca Pelosi al basso nel tour con Raymond e già forte di esperienze e militanza su palchi importanti con REALIZE, ONEBLOOD, BUYAKA. La naturale evoluzione di questa ricerca si completa con la figura del Maestro Marco Zaghi, che vanta più di trenta dischi all’attivo come strumentista ed arrangiatore (Leonard Jonson ex Temptation, Jerry Dugery, Laurel Aitken, Ganjamama, Franziska, Dave Baker, Platinette, ed altri): le sue doti di grande conoscitore della musica sono lo starter che consente ai tre di cimentare solidamente le fondamenta degli SMOKE. Le numerose collaborazioni straniere motivano gli SMOKE ad un approccio stilistico più internazionale, dando all'intero progetto un diverso spessore e ammicando sia al mercato italiano che estero, idea che ha sempre motivato gli Smoke. Con queste convinzioni Soresini, Zaghi e Pelosi danno vita al progetto, frutto di una ricercata simbiosi ritmica e melodica ed espressione della libertà della loro vena artistica. Le melodie e i testi di Andre T. Halyard aka Dre Love da New York, una delle voci dei RADICAL STUFF e che vanta prestigiose collaborazioni con artisti italiani quali IRENE GRANDI, ALMAMEGRETTA, RNT ed altri, completano il sound e l'originalità che caratterizzano questo lavoro. Ed è proprio al GEEJAM STUDIOS in Jamaica che lo stesso Alborosie e Andrew Seidel (from Germany) hanno mixato l'intero album. Gli Smoke hanno così ottenuto una miscela di suoni e ritmi che dal reggae roots si sposano al soul, dal blues ritornano al reggae: brani dolci e sensuali lasciano spazio a brani più accattivanti dove l’incalzare del rap si fonde con melodie incisive e ritornelli che facilmente trovano spazio nella memoria di chi ha poca dimestichezza col reggae. Altro fortunato incontro degli SMOKE avviene nei primi mesi del 2006 con Séan Daniel Martin, cantante, rapper, artista eclettico e tra i fondatori della scena hip hop italiana. Verso la fine degli anni 80, insieme ad altri nomi rappresentativi di questa cultura quali Dj Skizo, Dj Gruff, Top Cat e Kaos , Sean fonda i RADICAL STUFF, primo gruppo in Italia ad incidere un disco hip hop. Sean ha dedicato gran parte della sua vita allo studio delle “4 discipline” ovvero le 4 forme d’arte sulle quali questa cultura si fonda: B.Boying (breaking), Writing (graffiti), Djing e Mcing (Rap) diventando un punto di riferimento per molti appassionati di questa corrente artistica e culturale. Lungo il suo cammino Sean ha occasione di conoscere molti artisti di fama mondiale, sia nel campo dell’arte figurativa che in quello della danza e della musica com Keith Harring, Phase 2, Aone, Toxic, Coor, Mode2, Next one dei Rock Steady Crew, Africa Bambaataa, Gang Starr, US3, Shaggy, Beasty boys, Donald D., con alcuni dei quali collabora occasionalmente per svago o per lavoro. Da qualche Sean è anche il cantante dei DINING ROOMS i quali album sono distribuiti a livello mondiale e il quale singolo TUNNEL è stato ritenuto da Giles Peterson ( BBC-RADIO 1) tra i 50 brani più belli creati nel 2003. Sarà il frontman che accompagnerà gli SMOKE nel Rise up Tour 2006. Altra fondamentale presenza sul palco SMOKE a determinare il sound è la chitarra e la voce di Cesare “Cesarone” Nolli, musicista dal talento inconfondibile: autore, chitarrista, batterista, bassista (Neffa, MOKA). Marco Zaghi è affiancato da Riccardo Gibertini (Franziska, 88 tasti, nei dischi con Blue Beaters, Africa Unite) alla tromba, un’alchimia per la sezione fiati ormai affiatata da anni di tourné con RNTickets ed altre importanti realtà.
