Overview

Smokestack is a late night bar / club opened by the team that bought you Sandinista! in November of 2007. The name has its roots in the seminal blues track ‘Smokestack Lightning’ by Howlin’ Wolf and the celebrated Blue Note album by Andrew Hill. With this in mind, Smokestack takes customers on a musical voyage through New Orleans funk, Harlem Jazz and Memphis soul, stopping to pick up some Chicago blues, reggae and old school hip hop along the way.

Spread over two floors, the first floor has a relaxed, speakeasy lounge feel with a collection of soft booths and sofas to sink into as you sample the extensive drinks list. ‘The Roost’ on the top floor features club nights showcasing live music from local and touring acts, alongside sets from some of the most reputable funk and soul DJs in the UK.

Our state-side cocktail list takes you from New Orleans to New York, via San Francisco and The Islands showcasing the classics alongside Smokestack originals, with a spirit selection to rival any in Leeds. As well as a wide variety of premium bourbons, rums, tequilas and fine malts, we also stock a selection of celebrated bottled ales, lagers and fruit beers, not forgetting some exceptional wines. Our bartenders are experienced, friendly and personable and will happily assist in finding something to suit your taste.

Private Hire

Our top floor bar, "The Roost" is available for private or corporate hire. The Roost is situated on the second floor of the building and boasts a capacity for 150 people with a venue floor size of 55m². With a built in stage and dance floor, DJ booth and high spec. system we’re able to cater for all your needs, whether you want live music, DJs or even a performance and presentation space. And if you require food, we offer 2 creole / cajun themed buffet options prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, fresh from the kitchen of Sandinista!

The Roost is available for hire Monday to Thursday with a license till 2am. Friday to Sunday can be considered depending on the time and nature of the booking. Our license over this time can run until 4am but weekend private bookings do have certain conditions.

Click here to download our Private & Corporate Hire brochure.

For more info or to make a booking please call the bar on 0113 245 2222.

Hi Guys,

We're really looking forward to playing next Friday, and we've been dusting off some hot&heavy grooves for your discerning audience.

Maximum respect to you also for arranging that tribute over 2 nights to Jason Rae in June. For anyone interested there is a great documentary on The Haggis Horns featuring Jason Rae in 4/5 parts on Youtube. Poignant & affirming at the same time!

Peace,
Montuno

Hi Chico
Thank's for the tip on Indestructible! Roberto Rodriguez is one of my favourite trumpet players - got him on Broadway album Paraiso - our new album 'Our Mam in Havana' comes out in April - maybe we could do something at the Smokestack end April/May - I'll try to make it down to a gig night in March once the mixing's through!
cheers mucho
