Sean Plunkett – Harmonica and Vocals;
Kevin Higgins – Bass;
Dave Byrne – Guitar;
Robert Higgins – Drums
Influences
Canned Heat, Buddy Guy, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Sonny Boy Williamson, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rory Gallagher - Chicago blues mostly, with some jazz and white blues flavours.
Smokestack Lightning's modern incarnation began in late 2005 when long-time blues collaborators Kevin Higgins and Sean Plunkett joined Robert "Rock-Solid" Higgins, an able young drummer. After some low-down and skunky jams it became clear that no-one was going to take these blues away, so Scott Kohlman, an open-minded, jazz-trained guitarist, was drafted in on rhythm and lead duties. The band have been getting tighter and groovier ever since. In late 2007, the band changed personnel when guitarist Scott left to focus on honing his impressive jazz skills. Dave Byrne was brought in in his place and with his dynamic and slicing playing, he has found himself right at home.
Previous gigs inlude The Mezz, Eamonn Doran's, The Bleu Note, JJ Smyth's, etc. The band have recently recorded a demo, which you can listen to on this myspace. The demo was produced at Red Lab Studios.
