Joe Robinson's Interests
|
| General | Like every man I only like to talk about the following subjects:
Movies, music, TV, gambling, women, stuff that happened to me in the past and one wildcard (In my case comedy). | | Music | No one reads these so here are the highlights:
My Favorite from each decade:
50's Hank Williams edging Buddy Holly
60's The Who
70's Queen
80's The Smiths
90's Cake
00's Tenacious D
There is no doubt that the 70's is the greatest decade musically. No doubt the 80's is the worst. | | Movies | I'll only do comedies as to not bore the hell out of the reader. My favorite movies are usually the results of what I saw last and loved. My current favorite comedy is "Napoleon Dynamite". I don't remember laughing harder.
Other comedies still worth seeing:
-The Jerk
-Being There
-Bottle Rocket
-Rushmore
-Office Space
-Dumb and Dumber
-Tootsie
-Annie Hall
-The Graduate
-Groundhog Day
-American Splendor
I'm sure there are others.
I love anything and everything by Charlie Kaufman.
Robert Duvall is the greatest Actor of our generation. | | Television | The Larry Sanders show is the greatest Television show ever. I refuse to debate the subject as it is pointless to argue any fact.
There are a handful of things that don't involve sports that are worth watching today. South Park, Arrested Development, The Shield, to name a few. | | Books | Are you serious? Why would I read a book when they've made a perfectly good movie based upon the exact same piece of writing?
To be cool I'll say Voltaire's "Candide" | | Heroes | My Father.
However, my influences are:
-Bob Newhart - The most underrated comedian ever
-George Carlin - No one has been as funny for as long
-Bill Cosby - I want to be able to tell one story, on stage, for 10 minutes and be engaging the entire time
-Steve Martin - Renaissance man of comedy. Anyone who at one point in his life was the funniest man on the planet gets my respect.
-Jack Black - It has become cliche to either love him or hate him. He is a huge talent. Everytime I see him I laugh.
-Woody Allen - 50% of standup is derivative of Allen, 50% of comedic movie making is derivative of Allen and by derivative I mean "ripping him off".
-Richard Pryor - RIP, 90% of the comedy I see today is a poor imitation of your genius. |

About me:
Please visit my website JoeRobinsonComedy.com
I used to be cool, about 10 years ago. Chicks really liked me because I was funny, thin and had a job. Now I'm a bitter, married guy with two kids. I don't tuck my shirts in so I hide my stomach, but for some reason I still feel superior to most everyone I meet.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
My wife will not allow me to meet anyone.
