Vocalist/poet Joshua Tree and multi-instrumentalist Bill Wesley established Smokin’ Roots Crew in the summer of 2008.
A veteran of Slam Poetry and several bay area Hip-Hop and Reggae outfits, Joshua Tree is influenced by 80’s and 90’s rap music and has drawn comparisons to alternative rockers Mike Patton, Beck, and Anthony Keides. Millican is also influenced by the cerebral spirituality of Roots Reggae, and the revolutionary spirit of 60's Folk and 80's punk.
Bill Wesley is a musician with over 40 years of experience. Along the way, he has jammed with famous musicians including members of The Dead and Jimi Hendirix Experience. Wesley plays an acoustic baritone guitar which is a better match with Millican's natural vocal timbers. In addition to the guitar, Wesley plays the harmonica and the melodica during live sets (often at the same time!).
Smokin’ Roots Crew is currently writing material for their debut album, will no official release date.
