Our "fab-four" weren't born as SMOOTH CRIMINALS, but as "Esaù e i Belli Dentro", hyperbolic pop-rock cover band proposing music by Negrita, Pearl Jam, Litfiba, INXS, Doors and even Battisti.
Understanding prostitution didn't give what they hoped, our boys (Andrea, Francesco, Stefano, Giovanni and Geremia), after the leaving of bass-player Geremia "Jerrone" Bozzolin, eventually decided to change it all: new genre, new name and, above all, new singer... few weeks from Jerrone's defection, Daniele Bertoli comes to help the band.
The combo immediately acquires new life and power and finally changes its kind of music, playing what each member had always wanted to play: 70s/80s hard rock!
Hell yeah, the band shifts its shape and most of all its music! Gio does a favour to his throat and dedicates to his favourite instrument, bass, to leave his place behind the microphone to the newly arrived singer.
Bertoli's music provenance combined to the rock attitude of the other members (sleeping, till now) helps the now-called SMOOTH CRIMINALS to finally play live!
After more of one year of music, great bass-player Teo comes to join the band, arrived to replace former bassist Gio, who now plays with Ground Control (thrash metal).
At the end of 2005 guitarist Ghiva had to leave the band too, choice due to the necessity to concentrate on other important things.
Seminal albums to our musicians are VanHalen I, VanHalen II, and Lean into it by Mr. Big: in fact, the songs they propose are taken from these works. Smooth Criminals don't forget to pay attention to bands that go from AC/DC, Deep Purple, Guns n' Roses, Queen to... more modern The Darkness either, all bands that represent a must-play to every rocker!
Since December 2005 the band's line-up is composed by 4 people, who try to recreate early Van Halen and Mr. Big's sound.
Most important experiences by the Criminals to be remembered are: Zevio Rock Festival 2004 (VR), Good-Sound-Bye-Summer 2004 at Ex-Perfosfati in Cerea with Mr. Pig and Juliet's Kiss, Rockoteca 2005 in Bovolone (VR) and Oktoberfest in Gazzo Veronese (VR) with great Arthemis!
The band and its sound grow strong gig by gig! In 2006, anyway, the line-up changes again: singer Daniele is out. The change of the front man is a bit difficult, but at the end our Criminals decide that Filippo Ceccarelli (already singing with Sagmen) will be a good substitute for Daniele.
To be mentioned the participation in A.N.L. Countdown 2006, whose final took place at a biker fest in Grancona (VI): in that occasion Smooth Criminals placed second (first among the bands playing covers) out of more than 30 contenders.
Always in 2006 the band had the pleasure to play at the finals of the third edition of Pit-on-music cover festival (chosen among 58 groups), in Mareno di Piave (TV).
Smooth Criminals keep on giving a good number of concerts across the provinces of Verona, Mantua, Vicenza and Trento, gaining consent by the workers of this sector.
