Our Mission:
To provide a better quality of life for the men and women and their families in the Sheet Metal industry.
In late 1952, 129 men and their families joined together to help each other improve their quality of life. The Official Sheet Metal Workers' International Association Charter for Local Union #49 in Albuquerque, New Mexico was signed on January 7, 1953. It is temporarily being displayed in the beautiful old copper charter frame from El Paso Local #188. Brother Jeep Gililland spent many hours restoring Local 49's original charter frame and the result was well worth the effort. The charter, encased in the newly restored charter frame, symbolizes the beginning of many struggles and lots of hard work.
Who I'd like to meet: Union Training SMWLU49 provides apprenticeship and journeyman training to men and women of all levels of experience. Our training classes and intensive four-month courses provide hands-on and theoretical training in the field of sheet metal working. Students will learn about on the job safety, fabrication of duct work and architectural sheet metal pieces, Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC), welding, and all of the modern computer technology that is used in this exciting field.
And use tools like plasma cutters and arc welders -
To fabricate amazing 3D objects completely out of sheet metal!
