    SMYRC is important to me.
    My name is Dom D.
I’m 19 years old and I have been attending SMYRC for over 3 years now. I was once asked why SMYRC was so important to me and this is what I said.
SMYRC is important to me because in all honesty it has saved my life. It’s given me a safe place where I can go and not have to worry about people calling me names or telling me that who I am is wrong. It’s given me a place to meet and talk to other people my age that have been through and seen a lot of the same things I have. It’s given me a chance to meet so many wonderful people that have been there for me when I needed someone the most. It’s helped me develop so many different skills in life by taking part in all the wonderful groups and activities they provide. SMRYC is my home. My family. If you take that away you might is well take my heart away as well. SMYRC has helped so many young people realize who and what they are suppose to be in life. I know it’s given me hope and happiness and even a reason to live.
I know it may seem silly to some people or wrong but to me it’s not wrong. SMYRC is everything in this world that is right. It’s important to me.
    Sincerely,
    Dom D

SMYRC YOUTH!!!! "SMYRC has given me a safe place where I can go, not having to worry about people calling me names or telling me that who I am is wrong. In all honesty, SMYRC has saved my life" Dom D. "I really tried to stay in high school but it was just too awful. During freshman year I ran track. The other guys would push me in mud puddles and throw me in dumpsters and lockers. I was spit on, punched, beat up, called a fag, homo, queer, and burned with a cigarette." Matt

All youth who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Transexual, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Pansexual, Intersex, Asexual, Same Gender Loving, or other wise supporting the gay b c's are welcome to come to the SMYRC drop in center in Portland Oregon! Come and hang out with us anytime we are open for drop in on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm to 9pm. We are at 2100 SE BELMONT, Portland Oregon, 97214. You can come by anytime during those open hours and check out the space, read books in the library, use the computers, eat as much mac and cheese as you want, play pool, play air hockey, make art, take free clothes, bedazzle your free clothes, make new friends, dance on stage, get free counselling, go to a group activity, read a poem at open mic and SO SO SO much more. We are a youth directed space, and you get to chose what you want to do here! You don't have to stay any certain amount of time, you can come at any time, you can leave at any time, you can check your myspace all you want! Come check us out, we are like a boys and girls club drop in center, except way more fun, and way more gay. Expect lots of drag outfits, lots of glitter, lots of rainbow hair dye, and lots and lots of laughs. Check out the pictures of the inside of the space under my pictures! The MySpace page is a place for SMYRC youth (ages 14-23) to find information about SMYRC programs, events, and get access to other resources. If you're an adult (24 and older) who wants to support SMYRC there are some great ways to do that! You can be our friend on the facebook, donate, or sign up to volunteer! Thanks so much for your interest and support!
