I grew up in this little town in New Jersey called Sayreville. A great working class town. In 1986 I started a band called Skid Row with an incredibly talented guy from Tom's River by the name of Rachel Bolan. We played every shitty club we could and in 1988 got signed to Atalntic Records. In 1989 we released our 1st record and were lucky enough to be on the BonJovi "New Jersey" tour which happened to be the biggest tour of the year.
We started to sell some records, toured with BonJovi for 9 months then jumped on the Aerosmith "Pump" tour for another 7 months. In between we went over to Japan, Europe with Motley Crue, Moscow, Australia and a shitload of other places that I just can't remember. Fuckin' A!
After that,we went into the studio in Feb. of '91 and made "Slave To The Grind" which became the 1st heavy metal record to debut on the Billboard charts at ..1. We toured the states, Europe, and Australia with Guns and Roses then started our 1st headline tour with the baddest motherfuckers to ever hit a stage, the migjhty Pantera. Soungarden were also on the tour for about 1 month.
After that it's a blur. We headlined EuropeJ, Japan, Australia, Iceland, South America, etc. Finally, after 22 months, we went home. In 1994, we recorded "SubHuman Race" with Bob Rock in Vancouver then hit the road again. But, as life would have it, the record stiffed with the advent of the Grunge movement even though it was the best reviewed record of our careers. The kiss of death those fuckin' journalists! We finished up in August of '96 on the Monsters of Rock tour with Iron Maiden, Biohazard and the almighty Motorhead. These would be the last shows that we would ever play with the original line-up. But it was a great run! (I'll add more later. I hate typing.)
Today, I manage artists with the same company that managed us, McGhee Entertainment. And Skid Row is still together. Life is pretty fuckin' good!
