Bad Brains, The Beatles, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Slayer, The Stones, The Ramones, Circle Jerks, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Motorhead, Black Flag, KISS, Spinal Tap, Ween, Robert Johnson, Bob Mould and Hüsker Du, [(Apathy, No Heroes, Brainfathers, Smug, Apocalypse, Cowboy X, Sperm Bank Junkies, Fromunda.)(Snakey Billy's Founding Bands)]
Snakey Billy has been playing hard rock music since October 1992. That's 16 YEARS baby! From the opening riff of "One Track Mind" off of their 1995
Cloudmaker CD to "Purple Thing" and "Undone" from the Chrome Dandelions disc,
you get a good taste of Snakey Billy rock-n-roll.
Formed in Omaha NE in 1992, Snakey Billy & the Blond Iguanaz were instantly one
of the city's biggest draws. After securing a recording deal with (the now dead
and gone) AMMO Records, they released Cloudmaker in 1994. The CD earned rave
reviews and they continued to gig and tour in support of it.
When 1996 rolled around, the band took some time off to attend to family
affairs, regrouping a short time later. 1998 saw the band back in the studio,
and a year later they released their second CD Chrome Dandelions, which
includes a great cover of the KISS classic "She".
Lead singer and founding member Seth Kirshman has many years of recording and
touring experience. As lead singer for the popular Omaha punk band Apathy in
the 80's, he toured much of the midwest and east coast. Not only an incredible talent vocally, his songwriting skill is on a level all its own.
Guitarist Phil Thompson (another founding member), spent many of his early days
jamming and playing with anyone who would let his Marshall through the door. He
gained a lot of experience playing and writing music with some of the best
musicians in Omaha, and there are quite a few (don't sell Omaha short- Michael
Lee Firkins and 311 came out of here) Playing guitar in one of Omaha's most
influential bands, No Heroes, Phil really experienced what it takes to put out
great music and still hold onto your integrity . Phil and Seth form the nucelus
around which all of Snakey's music revolves.
Guitarist Barry Engle has contributed to the Omaha "original music" scene in
several bands. Nightmare (which later evolved into the Brainfathers) recorded
at Prince's Paisley Park studios. Barry's been involved in projects ranging
from pop-rock (Cowboy X) to industrial metal. In Snakey Billy, he found a
brother on guitar. Barry and Phil's playing really complement each other, put
on the CD's... you can smell it.
Bass these days is in the hands of Bryan May (don't say it- he's heard it a
million times already). He brings a rock solid foundation to the band. Bryan
started playing guitar but switched to bass some years ago, so he has first-
hand knowledge on really making his instrument fit tightly in Snakey Billy. He adds a great feel to the music.
We have separated from Matt Johnson. We enjoyed our time with him and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
We are bringing Todd Roberson back on board. If you know Todd, there is only one word that can summarize him...PROFESSIONAL!! Todd played with us a few years ago, and we are glad to have him back.
We are in the prerecording phase and plan to record our third and probably our last record....but who knows? Keep an eye out for it, cuz it's gonna kill.
To this day, Snakey Billy continues to put on great live shows and are
constantly working on and writing new material. These guys do on a regular
basis what many bands today have forgotten- they rock n roll. Some heavy- some
not so heavy. Some hard and fast to something a bit jazzy (you gotta hear
"Turquoise Fastball" off of Chrome Dandelions). TO CONTACT SNAKEY BILLY; papatango777@msn.com
