From the age of 12 Dan was making music in every kind of rock band imaginable. Punk, psych, folk, whatver. Playing guitar, recording on 4-tracks, spending all his days songwriting. Till in the year 1994 he found a Moog at a yardsale for 25 dollars. Within a couple years he was finding himself a collector of odd synths, a sound researcher, and at some strange point in his life where rock was not the only object of his desire any longer. The great late nineties brought many amzing sounds to his doorstep and after figuring out what synths could do when combined with 909 kicks and pushing rhythms (after hearing the likes of The advent, surgeon, Marco Carolla, Adam Beyer, Aril Brikah, Joel Mull, as well as Jeff Mills, Juan Atkins, selway, everything on Tresor, Pounding Grooves, etc) Dan dived into the waters, trying desperately to forget all of his former songwriting self, thinking that he could remold himself into a techno creator. Well, things only half worked out that way. See, Dan couldnt forget his melodic leanings or totally abandon his odd working habits. He couldnt help but make things sound like himself even when he tried to strip away his old melodic musicality. So whether that was a good thing or not kept bothering him. He sometimes wished his techno would fit side by side more easily with other tracks, but in general it just sounded a bit different. too different? By this time it was around 2000 and his first 12" came out on Surveillance soon after. Dan was playing live PA's in the midwest with an MPC and a synth or two (this was before ableton live exploded) and things were going ok.
But then he had doubt. And he moved to NY. And he lost touch with his techno friends and started wondering if his tracks would ever get anywhere. SO he stopped mastering to casette like he had in the old days, and started over.
He put out a more proggy/tech sort of track with his friend Ori Morag in summer 2006 called "tired mornings" and did a deepdish remix as well with Ori once again "eight letters". ANd he began making lots of techno again. And once again, he wasnt sure if it sounded right. Would it work on a dancefloor? He knew it could (because his live PAs had always moved people), but he needed others to know too. So he started putting up tracks on my space. and he could only hope. and he wants you to know how much he loves techno. and thinks it is big enough a sound to include oddities like himself. and important enough a sound and way of life to never abandon.
