The Sneaker story to date sees the cessation of one Melbourne band, Rade, to form a new and improved outfit. Featuring three formers member of Rade and a returning entrant on the Melbourne scene, Sneaker are coming to a venue near you.
Rade consisted of brothers Aaron and Ben Dartnell (guitar and bass respectively) and drummer Peter Ross, cutting their teeth predominantly on the Melbourne battle-of-the-bands circuit.
It was at a music video shoot as extras that Peter crossed paths with Mark Le Nepveu, who spent time briefly in Melbourne punk band Seeling as a second guitarist in their latter stages.
Mark was also quick to boast to Peter about his opportunistic cameoing live onstage with US group Foo Fighters in October 1999 at The Palace in Melbourne.
Something clicked. From there, Mark and Peter's friendship bloomed for some time before eventually turning into a band opportunity. A meetup with the Dartnell brothers followed - and from the ashes of Rade came Sneaker, the band's lineup completed with Mark settling in on lead guitar.
Still relatively embryonic, the band brings their varied sounds of rock to the local Melbourne scene. With a wide range of local and international musical influences (you can just about name any rock group), Sneaker have found their feet for delivering rock and a good time.
"The music part is fine, its the comedy routine we gotta work at," quotes Peter. Aaron is also quick to point out that "any member can ultimately find themselves as the brunt of all jokes at any given time".
In October 2005, the band set about recording their first EP/demo, entitled "The Sneaker Ep", an independent four-track recording from Melbourne's HideOut Studio, a set of brand new tracks showcasing their more varied tunes in the genre of rock. The input to songwriting shared amongst the four.
When not involved in Sneaker, Aaron, Ben, Peter and Mark battle dayjobs like everyone else, as well as being found watching (and in Mark's case, being a guitar technician for) various local through to international bands. And at the football - check Ben's tattoos.
With a network of friends in several upcoming and established bands, Sneaker are happy to share a stage at any time - and stay committed to bringing their live show to the widest audience of friends and new listeners available.
