SNOBODYS: CANNIBAL! - EP
Review on LOSINGTODAY.COM - THE INDIE MUSIC MAGAZINE
"Disarmingly shyly toned prickling snow globed pop is probably the way I can think of describing the tentative sound crafted by Texan duo - Shane and Dani - who are collectively known as Snobodys.
Already achieving quiet acclaim by way of their recently released debut EP ‘Cannibal!’ this pair it seems love nothing more than concocting twinkling starry eyed and tenaciously sensitive sugar tipped electro pop honey’s whose remit it appears is to melt the steeliest of hearts with their becoming playfully wide eyed purr.
Here you’ll find the forlornly willowy cosmic cuteness of sugar rushed ‘Breaking ice’ nibbling away craftily at your defenses whilst sounding not unlike a slightly kooky and demurring New Musik while the up tempo lullaby lilts of ’Spring snow’ with its strangely amorphous fusion of subtle Francophile accents, down tempo dialects and the adorably restless sprinkling of key chattering chimes is tempting listening treat to say the least.
’Oh, The Time Between’ is sweetly graced with a beautified fortdax styled decoration of brontean cascades pinned atop the kind of exquisite introspective air as once rendered by a certain Mr Wilson on ’in my room’ and more latterly these days by Brighton’s Brigadier while best of the set by a whisker is ’Speed of Love’ which between its seemingly frantic and dislocated delivery the subtle intones of Burt Bacharach can be heard."

SNOBODYS: CANNIBAL! - EP Review by Michael McCarthy
"Since The Postal Service released their now famous album Give Up in 2003 there have been thousands of artists to appear on My Space citing them as an influence, if not claiming to actually sound like them. Even six years later in 2009, it’s still a very hip thing to do. But, let’s face, very few artists have come along who sound remotely like The Postal Service, the beloved collaboration between Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard and Dntel's Jimmy Tamborello. Which might partially explain why Give Up remains such a popular album; Gibbard’s unique vocals and Tomborello’s programming created a sound that nobody could come close to matching. Until now.
Enter Snobodys, a duo consisting of two guys who both sing and play synth, who decided to form a two-man band producing their own music with Propellerhead’s “Reason” digital music software after many previous collaborations.
Shane (now Stitch) and Dani (now Patch) first met during their freshman year of high school, but initially clashed. The following year they were in the school band together and formed a friendship based on music. They would eventually become best friends and start many musical projects together, including a jazz combo and a mariachi band. They also composed symphonic band scores, which were performed at their senior Spring concert. They just couldn’t decide what direction to take their music in. Not until they’d finished the glimmering electronic pop tune “Spring Snow,” which appears on their debut, CANNIBAL!
While Stitch and Patch describe both “Spring Snow” and their personalities as “random,” everything finally seemed to click into place once they’d completed the track. For starters, it had a winter theme, and winter was their favorite season. They decided to combine the words snow and nobodies to create their name, Snobodys, accordingly. They also toyed with the idea of wearing giant snowman heads on stage for shock value, but ultimately decided that having such costumes made would be rather expensive. The idea of sweating throughout an entire show under a snowman mask was also undesirable.
Of course, snowmen do appear on the cover of the CANNIBAL! E.P. but “Spring Snow” is truly the only winter song among the four. In spite of its title, the opening track, “Breaking Ice,” is about breaking the ice metaphorically, not literally. And while The Postal Service influence is certainly audible in the track, the lyrics and synth also call to mind The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside.” After all, Snobodys have many influences and are in no way a copycat act.
On the contrary, their music shines with originality at the same time that it pays homage to their influences. “Speed Of Love,” for example, could easily be a song by The Bird & The Bee. Not only does it seem to be influenced by The Bird & The Bee, the production and musicianship of the song is actually on par with the work of The Bee’s own Greg Kurstin.
The final track, “Oh, The Time Between,” is a wonderful, chill out style ballad complete with piano. One that does call to mind The Postal Service in such a way that you could easily hear Ben Gibbard singing it on a second album by the duo. But after hearing this E.P., you’re likely to want to hear it on a full-length album by Snobodys instead."

AHH! I love Oh, the Time Between. AWESOME SONG!!!! You guys sound really good together with harmony and all. Very, very nice. I'm a fan. And, about the no snow thing, I can understand. I love snow more than anything, but there's hardly ever any in Kansas =P. Darn. =)
CRAZY RANDOM SOUND, WHICH I LOVE! BUT, IF YOU'RE FROM TEXAS YOU HAVE TO BE A LITTLE ODD AND RANDOM, CUZ THE WEATHER ALWAYS IS. KEEP UP THE RANDOMNESS AND TALENT AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR ENDEAVORS.
haha i just want you to know you guys are freaking amazing... i am your first buyer on itunes hehe... proud of it... lol... thanks for the inspiration...
Yea I think u guys are really good. I havent had a chance to get the album yet though. I've been having some problems with my I-tunes so it might be a awhile before I buy it but I will get it soon.
I have heard the EP though and I think It's really good.
Keep up the good work though, you guys are awesome.
Ha, I know. There is a reason I liked you guys from the first place. Well, it was the music, but good people made it stronger. You guys do everything you need, and I'm sure I'll be supporting it. You have at least 3 more Snobodies fans in Wa from me. Not a bunch but I'm trying.
I can wait, for sure. I just didn't want to get lost in all the projects and classes and all. I do enjoy real cd's and I always like to keep my collection growing, and your guy's cd will be a welcome addition. Thank you, and good luck with the Mother project. Although unofficial, I believe in the right hands it may even rival Earthbound, one of my favorite games for sure.
