  • Bio

snorb! began in 2004 when singer, guitarist and songwriter, Steve Bucklin, emerged from a dense musical cocoon he had constructed around himself following the birth of his three children. Not surprisingly, his first effort was a children's song called, "The Peanut Butter Sandwich Song," which has been broadcast and performed in places as far away as The Netherlands and Australia. ..!.. His new compositions and recordings soon caught the ear of one of the musicians in Lafayette, Indiana's uniquely supportive and diverse music scene, Pat McClimans, (formerly of the rock group, The PMG and currently performing with roots rock powerhouse, Root Hog.) McClimans' encouraged Bucklin to put together a group to perform snorb! originals and in July of 2006, Bucklin and rhythm guitarist, Tyler Gause played their first live show at the Lafayette Brewing Company, opening up for The PMG. ..!.. Bucklin and Gause continued performing with a diverse set of progressive originals and liberal re-imaginings of folk traditionals and classics by the likes of Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger. But it was their cover of King Crimson's, In the Court of the Crimson King that would propel them into their current incarnation. ..!.. With the addition of electric upright bassist, Nick Smith, (formerly ofPink Noise, Project Hayt, Waltz For Venus... currently with ROOT HOG,) in 2007, snorb! began to explore soundscapes, dark improvisational jams and a fearless approach to covering diverse genres and artists. (Ask them to play Pink Floyd's, Echoes or Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun. Maybe an Andrew Lloyd Weber number or a folk song from the fourteenth century.) ..!.. 2008 saw the release of two snorb! live albums, Past Imperfect and A Present (tense), culminating in Bucklin being named 2008 Guitarist of the Year and Smith winning 2008 Bassist of the Year in the local Lafayette newspaper's, "Rock It," awards. In 2010, snorb released their first studio album, "EP!," charting as high as #7 on Amazon.com's Folk Charts. ..!.. In September, snorb! added bassist Grandon Westlund to replace outgoing member, Nick Smith, (who joined Root Hog full time over the summer.) The first live recording with the new trio is due out in October, 2010. ..!.. --- "Steve Bucklin is one of the most innovative guitarists I have had the pleasure of hearing in Lafayette. With just an acoustic, he gets sounds that are almost inhuman." -- Tim Brouk - Lafayette Journal & Courier ..!.. "The moody music is as intriguing as it is amazing." -- JConline.com ..!.. • Influences

Progressive and psychedelic rock of all sorts. Jazz of the Miles Davis variety. Jazz of the fusiony, no-one-likes-that-kind-of-jazz variety. Bob Dylan. Neil Young. Poets. Painters. Folks. The Schoolhouse Rock song about the number 9. .. .. ..!.. ...... ..!..
  • Sounds Like

You always hope that you don't sound exactly like anyone else. You want your influences to guide and shape your own, new sound, with only a touch of obvious derivitivenessity. How successful I am at that is currently unknown. I hope that someone will listen to this music and comment on it in an intelligent and interesting way and then we'll all know a little more than we do now. .. ..!.. .. .. So far, our brave listeners have compared the snorbsounds to Graham Nash, (well, pretty much the whole CSNY family tree,) Tool (?! This might be my favorite and least expected comparison... I so wish!) Michael Stipe, (I tend to whine,) the love child of Radiohead and Alice In Chains, (which I will name Arnold,) Steve Winwood, Guided By Voices, old-timey blue-style-grass, (the smartest most compassionate man on earth said I sound a little like Steve Howe playing with Al Di Meola... and I didn't even have to pay him!!!) Michael Hedges, the buglight near the concession stand at the Acropolis, Bob Mould, Richard Thompson and that sound a whale makes when he realizes you're messing with him. .. ..!.. .. .. That's good work so far, but keep those comments coming, folks. This "Sounds Like" section isn't going to write itself! (Or is it?!) ....<a
