Santa Barbara Teacher Training
Needless to say the Fire Sirens trip out to Santa B was spectacular. Regardless of the "horror" hostel experience, we all managed to make it through and laughed at what wasn't all that funny. The sun must have increased our seratonin levels and helped us make it through. We are very proud and excited to have finally obtained our Hoop Teachers License and Certifications and cannot wait to begin classes in our dear hometown, Milwaukee! Please spread the word and help us increase the awareness that we have 3 new fantastic Hoop Girl teachers in our city. We learned the best from the best, Christabel Zamor.
We saw a pack of dolphins jumping around the bay on our last day there. There's no dolphins in our big lake so we'll have to jump around with our hoops by the lakeside to make up for it. Please look for us on Saturday mornings and come hoop with us! Whether you're an experienced hooper or have never hooped before, we will be so happy to meet you. See you soon!
In 1997 two Milwaukeeans, Wulfgar (Marilyn Besasie) and Niacin (Eric Griswold), saw their first fire performance at the famed Burning Man Festival in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. Since then, they have perfected their art and banded together with 4 other talented artists, Vegalumé (Anna Stone), Banshee (Beth Farmer), Donnybrook (Don Unverrich), and Socky (Jen Muecke) to create SnowFire, which uses Poi, Fire Hoop, Dart, Fire Ropes, Clubs, Ball and Chain, Fire Breathing, and Fire Staff.
Poi is a spectacular art form increasingly practiced in cities around the world. Fist-sized flaming spheres are whirled around the body in complex patterns. Fire Hooping is both thrilling and beautiful, a unique blend of fire and sensual dancing. Dart and Fire Staff bring a powerful, martial arts vibe to the mix. New tools and apparatus are being introduced and practiced all the time as members experiment and learn new moves to expand SnowFire's repertoire.
SnowFire has performed at the Burning Man Festival, the Milwaukee Art Museum, Jazz in the Park at Cathedral Square, Bastille Days, RiverSplash, Asian Moon Festival on Summerfest’s Leinenkugel Stage, Milwaukee County Sports Complex, Center Street Daze, Club Rain, Gallery Night, Art Bar, East Side Under Foot Festival, Hotcakes Art Gallery, Experience Art Riverwalk and other events such as political benefits, private parties, wedding receptions, etc.
Our safety commitment is to the highest possible standards, in full compliance with NFPA 160. We are extremely proud of our incident free record. SnowFire advises all clients that fire performance should not be undertaken without evidence of insurance, and this proof of policy should always be requested before booking a fire performance. Each of our members carry professional liability insurance up to $2 million. We do site checks, provide safety equipment, and always have dedicated safety personnel. Our indoor fire performances at Wisconsin State Fair Park, UWM’s Zelazo Center and Merton Primary School were impeccable.
