Sobchek creates crossover alternative dance music: A blend of Electro, Breaks, D&B and IDM , live extended with Visuals on stage.
Jurgen van Harskamp (DJ/Producer) , Niels Vermeulen (DJ/Producer) and Abel Elias Splinter (VJ artist) started in 2005 with the intension to create electronica without having a strict genre to fit in. The continuous struggle to find a way of connecting various dance styles in a liveset is always present, but gives a challenge that enriches the creative minds and takes care of never getting stuck in habits. Also in this way of working , you have to create your own musical rules.
The name of Sobchek is a corrupted reference to ‘Walter Sobchak’ , the vietnam Veteran character of the Coen Brothers Movie ‘The Big Lebowski’ . The music relates to this character: friendly but with strong outbursts, mood-swings but consistent in keeping the drive.
Their first EP 'Knaak' (2008-Samekh Records) is available on itunes
