IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION: PLEASE READ!
Performers are judged by a panel of judges solely on the merits of their performance, on a scale of 1 to 10, in six categories - Overall Musicianship, Originality, Song Variety, Stage Presence/Energy, Audience Interaction and Crowd Response. Bands have one additional category - Chemistry. Solo performers can receive up to 60 points; Bands up to 70 points. Performers also receive bonus points, up to 10, for each fan in attendance. After all the performers have had their showcases, the top 5 from each category are invited back for the Finals, where all the original judges plus a panel of celebrity judges will do the final judging. Each finalist then performs at the awards show and the winner gets their new guitar.
Phase Two of the competition is to support our charity, Project MuszEd. We do this through the Fan Favorite Award. Fans can "buy" votes for their favorite performer, $1/vote or six votes for $5, and ALL money is given to charity. The winner of the Fan Favorite Award receives a cash prize. This is strictly voluntary, and does NOT affect a performer's chances to win the prize package.

The So Cal Music Live Competition is a contest to determine the best live performers in the Southern California area. It is comprised of five categories – Best Female, Best Male, Best Acoustic Band, Best Electric Artist/Band and Fan Favorite. All types of music are allowed. The Awards will be presented in April 2010. The 2009 winners were BEST FEMALE - Kris Angelis; BEST MALE - Jonathan Blake; BEST ACOUSTIC BAND - The Fallen Stars; BEST ELECTRIC ACT - The Fallen Stars.
WHO ARE THE SPONSORS?
Fender will donate a Reasonator guitar for the winner of the Best Male category and Daisy Rock will donate a beautiful blue guitar to the winner of the Best Female category. The winner of the Best Electric Artist/Band category will receive a beautiful Inferno guitar from Minarik. The winner of the Best Acoustic Band category will win a $100 gift certificate from Sam Ash Music. All winners also receive a one-year membership in Songsalive!, the premier songwriter and composer organization, with branches worldwide. All participants receive a gift certificate from Sam Ash Music.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The Competition works through a series of showcases which will be held at locations in Orange, Los Angeles and Riverside Counties. Other locations may be added, depending on the demand. Each performer will be judged independently on a scale of 1 to 10 in the following areas: Overall Musicianship; Originality; Song Variety; Stage Presence/Energy; Group Chemistry (if band); Audience Interaction; and Crowd Response. In addition, each performer can earn up to 10 bonus points by bringing their family, friends and fans to the showcase.
The five performers receiving the highest scores (including ties) will become the nominees in their respective categories, and will compete in the Finals held in March 2010 at the Gypsy Den in Santa Ana for acoustic acts and at Back to the Grind in Riverside for electric acts. All nominees are invited to the Awards Show at the M Bar in Hollywood. The Top 3 as determined by the Finals will each perform one song during the Awards Show prior to the announcement of the winners.
WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE SHOWCASES?
The showcases for Orange County will be held at the Gypsy Den, located at 125 Broadway (Artists Village) in Santa Ana, on the third and fourth Tuesdays of each month. The finals will be held at the same location on March 20, 2010.
The showcases for Los Angeles County will be held at a yet to be determined location.
The showcases for the Inland Empire will be held at the Coffee Depot and Back to the Grind in Riverside. The finals for the electric artists will be held in March 2010.
HOW DO I ENTER THE COMPETITION?
Simply send me your name, address, cell phone number and email address, plus a check in the amount of $20, made payable to “So.Cal. Music Live,” along with your choice of showcase location and date. You can pay through PayPal - just use "competition@socalmusiclive.com" as the payee or email me at competition@socalmusiclive.com for the mailing address.
