Each day, all over the globe, sentient beings are deprived of all things natural to them and have their lives taken from them at the hand of mankind.
Below are a few examples of how animals used for food are devastating the environment, the hungry and the Earth. *Today, 40,000 children in the world die because of starvation. *45% of the total land mass in the U.S. is used to raise animals for food consumption. *More than half of all the water consumed in the U.S. is consumed to raise animals for food. It takes 2,500 gallons of water to produce a pound of meat, but only 25 gallons to produce a pound of wheat. *Animals raised for food produce 130 times the excrement of the entire human population. This means 87,000 pounds per second. *More than 260 million acres of U.S. forests have been cleared to grow crops to feed animals raised for meat. And another acre of trees disappears every eight seconds. The tropical rain forests are also being destroyed to create grazing land for cattle. *In the US, animals raised for food are fed more than 80% of the corn we grow and more than 95% of the oats grown.
Vegans contribute to virtually none of the above, however, if all of us cut our meat consumption even in half we could spare the lives of about 50 animals each per year and work to preserve our precious planet Earth.
