Society are an Americana/ Folk-Rock band hailing from the county of West Sussex in the UK known for their three-part harmonies and infectious hooks.
Society combine elements of country-soul, alternative and folk into a rootsy but matchless sound with refined arrangements in the songwriting occasionally revealing the influence of artists such as The Band, Neil Young, Ronnie Lane, The Heartbreakers, The Jayhawks and Whiskeytown. However,as the group individually cut their teeth playing indie-rock this is also reflected in their sound, providing a counterpoint to their love of roots music - Songs of love and redemption, of pain and loss set to a rich blend of melody, harmony and soul fused with a harder lo-fi guitar energy.
The band have earned a reputation for their tight and stark harmony laden live performances, sharing stages with the likes of Eve Selis, Deadstring Brothers, Luke Doucet, The Wailin' Jennys, Alan Tyler, Peter Bruntnell, Gringo Star and Corb Lund along with a couple of trips to Canada and the American midwest therefore gaining some cross-Atlantic appeal on the way.
In the winter of 2008 Society left the dissused stables that serve as their rehearsal space and relocated to their favourite studio down near the south coast of England to begin recording the songs that were to become their debut album 'Songs From The Brickhouse' - 11 compositions that highlight their songcraft and layered harmonies, full of wistful storytelling and sometimes pastoral imagery that reflects the surroundings the music was created in.
Also accompanying Society on 'Songs From The Brickhouse' are some fine additional players contributing with Pedal Steel (courtesy of Spencer Cullum from Deadstring Brothers and The Ryan O'Reilly Band), Fiddle, Accordian (from F.Scott Kenny's father Larry) along with Piano and Organ providing extra colour to the usual guitars/drums/vocals/harmonica that shapes Society's live show and indeed something they plan to add to their live sound in the future.
So here's to the future!.......................... Society are currently focused on putting in as many live performances as they can, promoting 'Songs From The Brickhouse' and reaching out to all.

This month we mostly have Catie Curtis (with a Richard Thompson cover), Lindsay Fuller and The Cheap Dates (and who amongst us isn't?), Josh Fix with a track from the well-titled album This Town Is Starting To Make Me Angry and the rather lovely Red Rooster.
Four more little sonic gems for your August pleasure are now available on the site. Blitzen Trapper, Boulder Acoustic Society, Jay Brannan and The Wiyos. Yet another fine quartet even though we say so ourselves as picked them out.
Cheers for the add lads - I like your sounds - 'I Watch the Rain Fall' is great, very 'Bandish, hope you like mine too:)! Good luck & all the best from Paul:)!
