On a broad level, I am interested in sociology, political economy, criminology and psychology.
Specifically, I research the political economy of anti-environmentalism (such as greenwashing and the abuse of climate science), race and ethnic relations, including racially-motivated violence (such as genocide and lynching), class and social control, religious conservatism in politics, war and foreign policy, and truancy and school climate issues.
On other fronts:
The history of music, music theory and composition, and music recording techniques.
Boxing history and the sport of boxing.
Raising awareness of alternative ways of social organization and advocacy for these alternative ways, ranging from socialism to communism.
Music
All kinds, but I am fond of heavy metal and progressive rock.
Favorite artists: King Crimson, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Frank Zappa (I'm on a massive Zappa kick right now), Kreator, Frank Marino, King Diamond, Jimi Hendrix.
Movies
Blade Runner, A Clockwork Orange, They Live, The Matrix, A Streetcar Named Desire, Psycho, Lord of the Rings, V for Vendetta.
Television
Television these days is a wasteland. But there have in the past been some good programs. Star Trek is an example of television at its best.
Books
Karl Marx, Capital volume 1; Manning Marable, How Capitalism Underdeveloped Black America; Herbert Marcuse One Dimensional Man; Michael Parenti, Blackshirts and Reds.

indeed it was! a spicy pickle salad, dreamy chicken reminiscent of tandoori chicken; with fragrant rice, potatoes and vegetables.
clearly, traditional honey-infused - well, golf-balls:) - were de riguer.
i believe when those heavy, sweet balls, LOL, were served to the bride first; it signaled she was officially married!
though held in a madressa, not a mosque, the setting was apparently sacred enough that we were segregated from the men evey minute.
it was unusual to see a bride married by proxy in a room filled with women - her groom and all the men vaguely visible on a closed circuit tv.
the whole experience was eye-opening and enjoyable, as i was clueless as to what i might expect.
no pictures were permitted except the official photographer, and the stock photo i googled below is really of a mendhi party, not the nikah: but it gives a feel of the experience.
valima (reception) tomorrow :) thanks for commenting...

I had a chance to catch the Bernard Hopkins v. Winky Wright fight....pretty dry. Both fighters are aging and looked sluggish. The undercard was amazing. Look out for Michael Katsidis in the lightweight division; he fought an inspired fight. Also Jorge Linares. He's only 21 and a Flyweight, but he is fun to watch; smooth and beautiful. He ripped off a 12-punch combination at one point.
