Dog Days of Summer By | Category: Features Joseph Frazz, a professional canine photographer, will be exhibiting his work at the Wyckoff YMCA at 691 Wyckoff Avenue in Wyckoff, NJ. The exhibit opens with a gallery reception on Sunday, July 20, from 2:00-5:00 PM and runs through August 15. Joe will be donating a portion of the proceeds from his book, Good Dog - a book of friends, to RBARI - the no-kill animal shelter in Oakland, NJ. Unlike the work of the famous photojournalist Elliott Erwitt , who’s dog photographs are now showing in Philadelphia’s Michner Museum, Frazz’s images capture a greater sense of sentience by removing the human factor from the photograph. Frazz’s style might be closer to Mercury Megaloudis, who won the 2008 Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year based on his dog portraits, but the comparison is based only on their sharing the portrait genre. Megaloudis evokes an Old World sensibility with a formal, staged setting. Joe’s photographs capture a sense of Americana in the bold colors and unique expressions on his subjects. They follow in the tradition of portrait photography, but they exhibit qualities of freedom and spontaneity that are lacking from the offerings of other artists. As America holds the title for highest dog population, there’s little doubt that the quality of Joe’s work will soon be gaining national, if not world wide, attention. Ceron cherchio wykoff Journal

A good intention....I started photographing dogs to give as gifts to my customers and what started out as good intentions has turned into a life's passion and love which has given me an extraordinary insight to these beautiful creatures we call dogs. Sept 23, 2007 Think it would be difficult to get, say, a dozen dogs to sit still for a photograph? Well wrap your brain around the idea of getting 1,000 dogs to do that. in New Jersey, photographer Joseph Frazz hoped to shatter the Guinness World Record for the most dogs sitting and staying. He needs the magic number of 628 dogs to top the previous mark but dreams of seeing 1,000 canines and their humans. So how to get every one of those mutts to sit still for the two-minute period required by the folks at Guinness? A whole lot of treats. And a team of trainers who can offer some relaxation techniques. Really. Plus, a secret weapon: Simply letting the dogs run around all day first, so they’ll be pooped. “Since the challenge is later in the afternoon, we’re counting on the dogs to be tired and ready to settle down for a few minutes,” Frazz says. You just know there’s going to be one canine trouble-maker out there who can’t sit still. Or makes a funny face just as the photo is snapped. The event was christened “The Day the Dogs Stood Still,”
