Nestled in one of the world’s top locales, Mornington Peninsula’s beloved summer music festival Solar is upon us. On Sunday 3 January next year music lovers will flock to Mornington Racecourse for the second installment of the popular festival.

Solar triumphed last year attracting 16,000 party goers from all corners of Victoria and establishing itself as Mornington Peninsula’s premier music festival. 2010’s event will see the bar raised even higher, as the event unleashes a world-class musical extravaganza for those in attendance. Sporting a stellar line-up of blue chip Australian bands and DJs, the festival also showcases the international talents of French touch masters Cassius and white-hot Canadian ghettotech outfit Thunderheist, who are hitting the country for their debut Oz tour. Regardless of your musical creed, there will be something to satisfy you at Solar with sounds spanning punk, rock, indie, hip hop and electronica.

SOLAR MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010 first round line-up: Bliss n Eso, Birds of Tokyo, The Grates, Muscles, Mammal, Cut Copy DJs, Cassius, 28 Days, Drapht, Grafton Primary, Bang Gang, Pez 360 & Seth Sentry, Thunderheist, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Ajax, Red Riders, Ash Grunwald, True Live, Grant Smillie (TV Rock), Andy Murphy, Acid Jacks, Chardy, Young Heretics, Red Ink, John Course, Eric Powell, Sean Rault, Mike Hunt and more TBA!

Bliss N Eso: Playing two sellout shows at Festival Hall and bringing the house down during their acclaimed performance at Sound Relief, 2009 unquestionably belongs to the Sydney-based hip hop titans. Solar will be their first Victorian gig since June.

Birds Of Tokyo: Rolling Stone labeled them one of the “must-see groups on the national circuit” and their sophomore album ‘Universes’ went Gold, with three of the LP’s singles also landing in Triple J’s Hottest 100. Proudly independent, Birds of Toyko do it their own way.

The Grates: Long time festival favourites, the Brisbane band have a deft skill for setting the vibe just right. Now based in Brooklyn, New York, Solar is their first Victorian gig in six months. Guaranteed to be a special one.

Muscles: The Shepparton-born artist made an indelible impact on the Australian music scene in 2007 with the released of his debut album ‘Guns Babes Lemonade’ on Modular. He’s gone on to consolidate his popularity through a series of blazing live shows everywhere and now he’s heading to Solar in his first performance in almost a year!

Eddy Current Suppression Ring: Frankston’s favourite sons, the band won an Australian Music Prize for 2008’s acclaimed album ‘Primary Colours’. The four-piece can’t wait to come back and play in their own backyard.

Mammal: Unleashing a fierce alchemy of prog, punk and rock, Mammal don’t mess about. They smashed it on the homeland before ripping the UK a new arsehole during a quick fire tour in September.

Cassius: Energetic, emotional and dancefloor-killing. French touch masters Phillipe Zdar and Boom Bas will be knocking out one of their imitable 'Dex n FX shows' at Solar Music Festival, across 2 mixers, 4 turntables and EFX machines.

Drapht: Part of Australia’s hip hop elite, you’d have to be living under a rock if you haven’t nodded your head to the Perth emcee’s killer joint ‘Jimmy Recard’, which came in at no.10 in Triple J’s Hottest 100. Catch the spitter in one of his few festival appearances this summer.

28 Days: Frankston’s local heroes, the band mine the fiercest elements of hardcore, hip hop and pop punk and have delivered a string of memorable music moments throughout their 11 year career. Their 'Upstyledown' album placed 1 in the ARIA charts in 2000 and singles ‘Here We Go’, ‘Rip It Up’ and ‘What’s The Deal’ are just the tip of a very impressive ice berg.

Young Heretics: The brainchild of former Getaway Plan vocalist Matthew Wright, Young Heretics have been blazing an impressive streak of recent form. Solar is the place to see the Mornington Peninsulaborn Wright rip out his first show in the area. Unmissable.

Thunderheist: Branding the unforgettable war-cry of ‘Jerk It’ courtesy of last year’s breakthrough EP of the same name, the Canadian duo rip you onto the dancefloor and shag you senseless with their arse-shaking assault of electro, booty and ghettotech. Solar, better wear protection!

Line-up may change and vary without notice. This is an over 18s event. Photo ID is required for entry.
