Solar Punch extends the theme of solar-powered music launched with our associates in the band Circus Guy during its solar-powered tour to Egypt, which was documented as Solar Circus by videographer james dean conklin. We use small, portable solar panels to power up amplifiers for our musical performance. With our moderate sound level, we are quite approachable, which enables a chance for dialog with audience members. We field questions about solar energy and music, drawing from our combined trades as artist, musician, physicist, and educator.
Photons (guest musicians) broaden our frequency spectrum and make us brighter, louder, and more energetic. Our repertoire is a sampling of known songs along the lines of: feel-good / rootsy / folksy / americana, with some original compositions. We have found that the combination of music and education works harmoniously well. At outdoors events, such as farmers markets, we interact with people passing by and answer questions, particularly from the curious children.
Solar Punch is a sustainable group; all we need is the Sun; and if the Sun is "sleeping", we can play off of batteries that were charged by solar power. The members of Solar Punch have experience playing on both large stages and in intimate settings. Let us know if you would like us to play your event!

can't wait to meet you guys! i have talked to fred about you a lot! i also teach an environmental action class to middle school kids in the city...there is so much to learn about solar energy!
What's up Guys?! Great to play with you the other day at the Eastchester Green Day Fest. Your songs are great! Please keep in touch. Vita and Kristina (Kristina con Vita) :-)
I found this news clip today. This is something that lots of us have been talking about for years. "The next President will have to make some hard choices on energy. Nuclear power has radioactive wastes. Hydrogen fuels burn cleanly, but hydrogen is expensive to produce and hard to distribute by pipeline. Most people don't want huge, noisy wind turbines in their back yards.
Solar energy is a favorite of environmentalists, but it works only when the sun is shining. But that's the trick. There is a place where the sun never sets, and a way to use solar energy for power generation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year: Put the solar cells in space, in high orbits where they'd be in sunshine all the time.
You do it with the solar power satellite (SPS), a concept invented by Peter Glaser in 1968. The idea is simple: You build large assemblages of solar cells in space, where they convert sunlight into electricity and beam it to receiving stations on the ground.
The solar power satellite is the ultimate clean energy source. It doesn't burn an ounce of fuel. And a single SPS could deliver five to 10 gigawatts of energy to the ground continually. Consider that the total electrical-generation capacity of the entire state of California is 4.4 gigawatts. "
