Singer-songwriter Sola was born in Lima, Peru. Her family moved to Montreal in 1994. In the late 90’s, she explored music through classical guitar and through folk and popular Latin-American song. She was already dabbling into song writing and composition. Sola soon started to embrace North American sounds as well: folk, rhythm and blues, soul, etc. Surrounded by urban culture, hip hop also found her. In 2000, she joined a local hip hop act as a vocalist.
Her solo career began in 2002. Since then, she has been part of countless collaborations with artists from Quebec, Canada, Peru and Cuba’s urban and indie scenes, in the studio as well as onstage. She is also involved in several cultural and social development projects, locally and internationally. Sola was a delegate at the 2004 Oxfam International Youth Parliament (Sydney, Australia) and a performer at the opening ceremonies, produced by Cirque du Soleil. It was this trip that brought together the collective Amérythmes. Most recently, they travelled to Havana, Cuba for the 3rd Symposium of Cuban Hip Hop.
Sola’s latest project is her first solo album: Solamentecorazón. Alongside her guitar and a crew of soulful musicians and beatmakers, she brings us her most intimate and enthralling songs in English and Spanish, reflecting her diverse influences and the journeys that have shaped her.
La cantautora Sola nació en Lima, Perú. Se trasladó con su familia a Montreal en 1994. A fines de los 90, exploró la música a través de la guitarra clásica y de la música tradicional y popular latinoamericana; ya experimentaba con la escritura y la composición. La música norteamericana también la cautivó: el folk, el rhythm and blues, el soul, etc. Inmersa en la cultura urbana, se encontró también con el hip hop. En el 2000 se integró a una agrupación hip hop montrealesa.
Su carrera como solista empezó en 2002. Desde entonces, realiza numerosas colaboraciones con artistas de los círculos de música urbana del Quebec, de Canadá, del Perú y de Cuba, tanto en el estudio como en el escenario. También participa en proyectos de desarrollo cultural y social a nivel local e internacional. Sola fue delegada en el Parlamento Internacional de la Juventud de Oxfam 2004 (Sydney, Australia) y actuó en las ceremonias de apertura, realizadas por el Cirque du Soleil. Fue en este viaje que se formó el colectivo Amérythmes. Recientemente, viajaron a la Habana, Cuba para el 3er Simposio de hip hop cubano.
El más reciente proyecto de Sola es su primer disco como solista: Solamentecorazón. Acompañada por una guitarra y por un grupo de músicos y beatmakers asombrosos, ella nos brinda sus canciones más íntimas y cautivantes en español e inglés, a través de los sonidos de sus diversas influencias y de los viajes que la han marcado.

Elle commence son parcours solo en 2002. Depuis ce temps, elle effectue de nombreuses collaborations avec des artistes de la scène urbaine du Québec ainsi que du Canada, du Pérou et de Cuba, autant en studio que sur scène. Elle participe aussi à plusieurs projets de développement culturel et social au niveau local et international. Le plus récent projet de Sola est un premier album solo: Solamentecorazón. Accompagnée d’une guitare et quelques musiciens et beatmakers, elle nous offre de ses chansons les plus intimes et envoûtantes en plusieurs langues (surtout espagnol et anglais), aux saveurs de ses diverses influences et des voyages qui l’ont marquée.
