SDG is proud to be releasing a new series that sees John Eliot Gardiner and his Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique explore the music of Johannes Brahms.
This series is an important milestone for SDG heralding the development of the label beyond the music of Johann Sebastian Bach and the Renaissance choral repertoire which have so far dominated its catalogue.
“In the history of Brahms recordings, this disc is genuinely innovative: a richly varied orchestral sound on superbly played original instruments, combined with a buoyant, flexible approach to speed and articulation. “ Sydney Morning Herald’s Arts Publication

SDG703 receives the IRR OUTSTANDING accolade (23 Mar 2009)
SDG703 has been selected as one of the 'outstanding' discs in the April edition of International Record Review.
The IRR OUTSTANDING accolade was inaugurated in the January 09 issue. Selected recordings are highlighted with the accolade IRR OUTSTANDING and are indentified by individual reviewers.
BACH CANTATAS - VOLUME 27 (SDG138) WINS THE CHORAL AWARD AT THE BBC MUSIC MAGAZINE AWARDS 2009.
BBC Music Magazine wrote:
"Each volume of Gardiner's Bach Pilgrimage Project is an event, and this volume is particularly strong, with very good singing from all the soloists: Peter Harvey and Paul Agnew are absolutely beautiful in Cantata No.194, and soprano Ruth Holten, who is lovely in No.129 delivers her all."
SDG has rapidly established itself as one of the leading independent labels, praised for the exceptional quality of its recordings as well as for the elegance of its packaging. In October 2005 its very first release won Record of the Year at the Gramophone Awards, and all subsequent releases have won international acclaim.
SDG is a not-for-profit organisation and any revenue from its recordings is reinvested into making new recordings of Sir John Eliot Gardiner and the Monteverdi forces’ innovative projects: Pilgrimage to Santiago followed an acclaimed concert tour along the route to Compostela to receive as much praise as the concerts.
Autumn 2007 sees the first recordings with the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, recorded at the Royal Festival Hall in London and the Salle Pleyel in Paris during the Brahms and his Antecedents concert cycle.
The name Soli Deo Gloria is drawn from the initials that Johann Sebastian Bach appended at the end of each of his Cantatas, dedicating them to the "glory of God alone".

SDG – Soli Deo Gloria
J S Bach appended these initials at the end of each of his Cantatas scores.
for Soli Deo Gloria, to the Glory of God alone
they signified his deep devotion and his desire to serve God through his music.
These same initials now identify a new label, associated with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestra, dedicated to the recordings made during the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage.
In total SDG will release 51 CDs, each corresponding to one of the Bach Cantata Pilgrimage’s concerts and including the cantatas Bach wrote for a specific liturgical feast. It is the first time that Bach cantatas are issued on CD in this coupling.
THE BACH CANTATAS COVERS
Each release features portrait by photographer Steve McCurry, a celebrated photographic correspondent who is most known for the "Afghan girl" photo which appeared on the cover of National Geographic.
"McCurry's pictures are immensely striking:
they seemed to provide a potent imagery
which perfectly complements that of the music."
Sleeve Notes: During the course of the year 2000, Sir John Eliot Gardiner kept a diary in which he recorded his thoughts and analysis of the music and personal remarks about the events of the tour. Extracts from the diary have been made available to illustrate the Bach Cantatas recordings, thus providing a unique insight of one of the most complicated and exciting musical projects ever.
