"The Solomons are a breath of fresh air in the Australian rock world. This Double A-Side is an amazing listen that promises so much. So much in fact that you will be counting down the days until their EP is released. It showcases the diversity that this band offers. ‘Some Kind Of Aid’ is a great rock track (with a hint of brass) in the vein of Magic Dirt or You Am I, while ‘Rise And Fall’ is a sweet track that consists of a melody that The Beach Boys would be jealous of. These are amazing tracks to listen to and I for one can’t wait for the EP to come out."

"On its debut double A-side single, Melbourne band The Solomons have chosen diversity over singularity. The two tracks illustrate distinct, but vaguely related aspects to the band. The first shines through in ‘Some Kind of Aid’, a ’60s three-chord rocker that saunters down High Street with the fashionable aplomb of a pin-striped London boy. The second sparkles on the surface of the Church-ish ‘Rise and Fall’, a shoegazing track that stops short of staring at the floor in favour of the Falling Joys records poking out from inside the next room.
...if they keep creating songs of this quality, the future looks more than reasonably bright."

The first track ‘Some Kind of Aid’ features the lead vocals of bassist Cass Allen and is a 60s-inspired pop song with what some would say has a Youmees-by-numbers intro. The band know their chops and keep it both tight and rollicking. I have no doubt you’ll be hearing this track on community radio stations around the country, if not the National Youth Network, given a chance.
(Rise And Fall) has a late 80s English feel to it (think Stone Roses and Ride) but to us it sounds like early Welcome Mat. It’s tops!

"You Am I’s jangle rock sound with a brassy broad out front (Some Kind Of Aid).
Bluesy and energetic but the B-side (Rise And Fall) is better."
Beat Magazine, Melbourne
"When bassist/vocalist Cass Allan tore through Some Kind of Aid it was fairly clear why The Solomons had chosen to showcase the tune as one of the tracks on their CD. The bluesy bass combinations had shades of The Who throughout the track."
(Rise And Fall)a cruisy rock tune with a bit of swank"

(21/11/09) "With powerfully delivered vocal melodies the audience was undeniably being won over."
(27/6/09) "The on-stage cohesion is quite impressive. Judging from the general audience reaction, three strong vocalists and an intriguing mix of trumpets, keys and clever bass lines reminiscent of the carefree Beatles vibe, had The Solomons deemed a band to keep tabs on for future updates. They certainly aren’t too bad at warming up the crowd either"

"They’re really starting to emerge as one of the better locals.
What makes this group stand from the rest out is their highly distinctive sound.
These guys have an edge about them.
Rise and Fall is subtly pensive with clever instrumentation and luscious harmonies carried throughout the tune. Some Kind of Aid is a hot infusion of funky rhythms and guitar licks that is complimented by cool female lead vocals and some explosive trumpet tunes.
Despite their quiet presence, The Solomons’ climb to the top is steady and impressive."

Melbourne band The Solomons originally formed in late 2007, and have since added Aaron Ronaldson and Leigh Baines to original members Doug Hind and Cass Allan. They are already stalwarts of their local music scene, having played at some of their cities best known venues such as The Hifi, Billboard, The Espy, Ding Dong, The Curtin, The Toff, The Evelyn, and The Tote, sharing the stage with the likes of Tim Rogers, British India, Evermore (NZ), Gun Street Girls, and Oh Mercy.
This year they released the Some Kind Of Aid / Rise And Fall double A-side. Recorded by Craig Harnath (Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Dallas Crane) at his Hothouse Studio with Finn Keane, and mastered by Tony “Jack The Bear” Mantz (Nick Cave, Silverchair, You Am I) it is the first taste of their debut EP due next year.
It’s a record that very nearly depicts The Solomons as two bands under one name. Some Kind Of Aid is a slice of rhythm and guitar fused garage by that mid to late 60s group who once contained members of the Small Faces, were guest fronted by Merry Clayton, and famously covered by The Who.
Its flip side Rise And Fall is the dreamy echo of The Stone Roses meeting Ride at a rehearsal studio on a hazy Spring afternoon, finally awaking the nearby streets from the ten year long hangover that was the bad 80s. There was a good 80s too, but none of us could find out what it was doing the night before.
Already receiving extensive airplay on community radio across the country, Some Kind Of Aid / Rise And Fall is available on CD at shows and selected stores, as well as worldwide on itunes and amazon-mp3.
