Solus Ipse formed in Newcastle in the summer of 2001, after a few name and line up changes they arrived at the Solus Ipse of today. They formed the band with the intention of performing their own material that was inspired by the music they were all listening to. With each member of the band bringing their own influences to the fray their sound has taken these influences and molded it into something new, which sits well in the heavier side of alternative metal.
After a long period of writing and perfecting a large number of songs, Solus Ipse began gigging in August of 2003. With regular gigs and practicing they have become a very tight live band and prolific song writers. They put some of these songs down on their first demo shortly after their first series of gigs at the end of August 2003.
In the last year Solus Ipse have improved tremendously as a live band and as individual musicians, as well as gaining more fans in the local music scene. These improvements can be seen in their new material, which is more diverse and ambitious, making their older songs seem immature in comparison.
