Chris's Interests
|
| General | I enjoy: downhill skiing, kayaking, biking, woodcarving freshwater fish decoys (seriously), furniture building, writing, a good dump, cheap frozen pizza, political discourse, travelling to remote places | | Music | I like a broad range of music and own about 500 discs. I like: XTC, Billy Bragg, They Might Be Giants, Donovan, Ween, Phil Ochs, Tom Waits, Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Howlin' Wolf, Elmore James, Oscar Peterson, Medeski, Martin & Wood, Tito Puente, Ben Folds and obvious ones like the Beatles, Floyd, Hendrix, and Zeppelin. Also Johnny Cash, Dick Dale, Fats Domino, Morphine, Reverend Horton Heat, Tenacious D, Wilco, and Stevie Wonder | | Movies | Nowadays I primarily watch Documentary, Foreign, or other Independent films. I particularly like the films of Albert Maysles (Grey Gardens, Gimme Shelter, Salesman), Ross McElwee (Sherman's March, Bright Leaves, 6 O'Clock News), Errol Morris (Fast, Cheap & Out Of Control, Gates Of Heaven, Thin Blue Line), Steve James (Hoop Dreams, Stevie, Reel Paradise), and Pennebaker/Hegedus (Don't Look Back, War Room). A few of my favorite movies include: Star Wars, Gandhi, The Godfather, City Of God, Baraka, Dazed And Confused, Battle Of Algiers, It's A Wonderful Life, Best In Show, 8-1/2, Goodfellas, American Movie, On The Waterfront, Waking Life, Bridge On The River Kwai. Others include: Blazing Saddles, The Aristocrats, The Paradise Lost movies, The 7-Up Series, Midnight Run, Slap Shot. | | Television | Shows I watch regularly: The Daily Show, Family Guy, The Office, reruns of Saved By The Bell, The McLaughlin Group, The Amazing Race, any shitty MTV dating show, Lost, and occassionally I watch the intro to The O'Reilly Factor so I can laugh at what a fucking moron he is. I also love Chappelle's Show, Seinfeld reruns, and the brilliance that IS The Tony Danza Show (RIP). I just finished a marathon viewing of The Sopranos first five seasons after never having seen them. Without a doubt some of the best TV I've ever seen. | | Books | Favorites include: The Grapes Of Wrath by Steinbeck, A People's History Of The United States: 1492-Present by Howard Zinn, Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest by Ken Kesey, Journey Of Souls and Destiny Of Souls by Michael Newton, Any book that exposes the lies and hypocrisy of people in power - especially Chomsky. | | Heroes | Anybody that lives a life of peace and works to ease suffering and/or rights injustices. People like Gandhi, Martin Luther (the) King Jr., and Fred (Mr.) Rogers. I also really like funny people, especially George Carlin and Bill Hicks. |

Chris's Blurbs |
About me:
I am a suburban-Chicago geek turned Northern Michigan recluse. I love toilet humor and finding things I thought I'd lost. I rode a bicycle from San Francisco to Washington D.C. I studied in France and realized that they are not the cheese-eating surrender-monkeys we might think. I have travelled quite a bit, but never as much as I would like. I am a senior member of the National Ski Patrol. My cat's breath smells like cat food. For much, much more, visit www.andsomeguy.com
