The Beginning. Something New began in the Summer of 2001 by Matt Smith and Ariel Castillo. Ariel still in middle school and Matt a sophomore in high school, decided to form a band. They went through many changes of bassists and singers, when they formed they band they are today. After long practices and song writing, the band members clicked in November 2004. They practiced everyday in Matt's basement and played local shows around Yuma County, Colorado. Later on, Something New was landing gigs in Denver and gaining more fans throughout Colorado.
First Demo. In April of 2005, Something New recorded their first demo CD at Eight Houses Down in Denver. They were then sponsored by Offset Clothing. The demo consisted of three songs: Leaving, Letterman Jacket Show and Tell, and Our Last Moments. "Leaving" then got asked to be on the 2005 Vans Warped Tour Skratch Vol. 24 CD along with many other popular bands. They are also featured in a Props BMX Video.
Song Writing. Matt, Ariel and Jared write most of the lyrics and guitar music together, while Brian comes up with all the beats.
Hiatus. After what seemed like a long hiatus from the band to continue their education, Something New is going back to the studio this summer to finish up recording. Look for Something New playing shows soon!
