Jaime sings, plays keyboards and writes songs. Ahren plays guitar, sings sometimes and writes songs as well. Oh, and one's a playwright, the other's a techie.
Influences
To name a few, my Dad, Beatles, Elliott Smith, all kinds of Musicals, Jorge Drexler, Chris Cornell, Radiohead, Loose Thread, Cafe Tacvba, Beulah, Guster, Menomena, Stereophonics, BNL, Death Cab, Aimee Mann, Foo Fighters, Eels, Ricardo Arjona, Air, John Mayer, Elton John, Jamiroquai, Luis Miguel, Jon Brion, Surrogate Sunrise, Michael Buble, Julieta Venegas, Spoon, The D, Wilco, The Shins, Billy Joel, Daniel Johnston, Ben Folds, RHCP, The Lennons, Queen, Alejandro Sanz, Coldplay and pretty much anything we feel like listening to.
For the Benefit is from Wyoming. A musical experiment from Ahren and Jaime emphasizing the marriage of guitar and synth, inevitably bringing a transformed point of view on music to the ear.In its earliest form, Something Shakespeare came to be in 2003 as three friends came together to jam and record in Jaime's basement. It was a very informal affair: three guys with the same desire to record their songs. The third party was a good friend, Landon, (who currently plays in the SLC area as Landon Audio.) With the facilities at hand, they recorded Ahren's Naughty Song and Landon's Nothing to Give. This gathering sparked many more jamming sessions until thetime came for Ahren and Jaime to record an album. By then, Landon was merely a good friend, but not a part of the band. In August of 2005, before their departure to college Ahren and Jaime recorded their first basement album: Summer Project II. Originally, the band name was to be Brothers in Arms, but soon after discovering Brothers in Arms was a Dire Straits album, the duo retreated to their theater roots and chose a more suitable name-- Something Shakespeare. Now, as their music takes on a new and complex direction, their name has conveniently become FOR THE BENEFIT. As students of theater, the duo strive to convey character in their songs, tell a few good stories and hope someone's listening._____________________________
