Where you can read about:

I have just moved back to the UK from New Zealand, music is my main hobby, social life, and drinking aid. Thanks to all the great bands that have accepted my invites. I love loads of heavy music but tend towards doom, sludge, space, stoner, psych and prog rock, equally I love classic 60s and 70s rock. Yes, I also stand up for my rights to say I like the White Stripes because their new LP is wicked.

Apart from that, this week I have been mostly listening to Looking Glass www.myspace.com/lookingglassoz, Hypnos 69 http://www.myspace.com/hypnos69, and eddie vedder's 'Into the wild' soundtrack. I don't like to think of myself as a geek but suppose I must accept that I am as most of the pre-requisites are there; I work in IT, I like cult Sci-fi films/books and cult comedy, and I have an obsessive train spotter-like interest in music.

Wow, that's really cool, not been to that venue but it sounds like an amazing place. ah nice that that chap found you that's great. Yeah I'm fine, no point in bothering you with the usual shabazz though, just getting gradually more and more stressed out about everything, but it's all good. isn't Sunn and Om on next week?

I just try to get them to open up a little bit...just like I do sometimes. My music collection is stupidly ecclectic. And no thank's I wouldn't like to be stuck in a wigga's head for the day...I would much rather throw a brick through my own window.

Take care man, and I look forward to hearing back from you as usual

Hey man, how's the hum-drum of life treating you?

Been up to any funky stuff over the weekend? So, you're originally from the UK...you must have a bangin' accent then eh? Did you notice how many of you lads are over here? It's like a home away from home, haha. I get where you're coming from with the remotness of the country, at time's it can be a bit of a head fuck when you realise.."no shit, I am actually living on an island where most of the inhabitants are sheep or livestock". I'm pretty happy in NZ, seem's to suit my character quite well. I'm a social person, but prefer to sit at home with a 2 skinner and my sounds, and my obscure imagination. Well man, I know you'll end up in a groovy place, it just take's time to find home.

You've got a random to stay at your place? Wicked man, that should be a cool encounter, finger's crossed he doesn't try and put his fingers in your jam while you're not looking, or sellotape your cat's legs together.

Second thought's i'm not sure if you'll dig Jethro Tull, but it's definatley an experience in itself man...Flute rocks my socks...one of em things, just like the harmonica. It sets off a little old school spark in my like nothing else. Oh...King Crimson...swoooooooooooon. Unfortunatly that Jericho link you sent me didn't work...fucker. I'll start downloading some, on my extremly fast internet connection. Take's about 2 days to download an album...slower than dial up (growl growl growl, moan moan moan).

Favourite OG album? Oh shit man, they're all so very different in their own way. I would have to say Frequencies from Planet ten will always be up there, as will Healing Through Fire and The Big Black, and fuck it....I have no idea what album's my favourite..no clue, lol. I try not to be judgemental with people's music taste, I jus

ey, not been on dastardly myspace for a while so sorry bout the delay again....
are you well?
It just so happened Pentagram were playing and we were just on holiday in Denmark and got handed the flyer so we just went, their frontman is so tiny and fragile!
That's absolutely disgusting what that man did to your camera, how goddamn bloody uncivilised.
Yeahhh, I know Trippy Wicked! Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic children of the night are they not? saw them at a sludge all dayer thing last year I think and they gave me their album for nothing, such nice guys, good music too :) I think I've heard of Latitudes but i'll give em a listen coz I can't quite remember what they're like if I have indeed heard them or not.
gah looks like I missed that show! :( how was it?
realised I can't go to AIC either, can't afford it haha...report back though, yes?
cool
peace x

be wrong saying NZ is cut off from the music scence. There are alot of pretencious people who think they know their shit, but mention their favourite bands as being Slayer, Metallica and AC/DC...
I'm actually yet to meet someone who has similar taste in music, (not over the internet mind)...and shockingly when people ONLY listen to pop...my judgement of them slightly alters, I know it's shallow...but music is the key to having a soul (wtf am I on about? haha).

Anyways man, I should probably cut this message short now, if not, you will end up with a 4 page comment about 9 fingernails slowly scraping the surface of a rusty watermelon.
Take care man

Hey man, loving the spamming, haha. You look like you have a full on year of head banging and lighting up. Sound's like a magic year man. Live it up while you've got the cash and the time... So I take it you're originally from the UK? Pretty different compared to ole' NZ eh? Asking money from your mum at your age Rich? really?, tut tut, haha...Try play the "I'm a really good son, and i choose your retirement home" card.

BDO look's pretty miserable next year, definatley not worth the 9 hour drive (yes, I drive terribly slow, infact, I probably shouldn't even be allowed to drive over 40kmph due to my minimal concentration span) nor is it worth the $. I would love to head over to Europe for a year or so just to check out the awesome music scence, alas, study and work for the moment. I'll get there...one day....

Jethro Tull...is...difficult to explain, lol. I attempted describing them, but I think the closest I can get to it is "wtf? how can someone can so good at the flute". Definatly worth getting to know, I would recommend starting with Aqualung (forget the title track...), pretty easy to get into and Ian Anderson is an absolute legend. Iommi didn't release any LP's with Jethro Tull, only performed "Song for Jeffery" before he fucked off back to Earth.

There you go again, rubbing the Orange Goblin card in my face again. sigh sigh sigh. I imagine if I got to see them live it would be a similar scenario to The Beatles. There would be me right at the front, crying, screaming and just being a ridiculous over the top 14 year old girl again.

Faded tee's are the shiz man, they're wicked. Rock tee's need to look battered and tatty. That's the look! You should see some of mine, haha...Not even a homeless dude would were them, lol.

In all honesty though, I wouldn't think you would

Bang on with you about the 70's classic rock.

Captain Beyond, with Mr. Evans himself. What a legend in his own right. Mind, Captain Beyond have had more line up's than an African has had rice. That's a bit of a presumptious comment to make, considering I have no clue about African's general rice consumption.

Not familiar with Leaf Hound and Night Sun, etc...I will have to get around to downloading some when the weather decides to give my internet a break.

In all honesty, I'm generally opposed to "social networking" tools, such as facebook...i would much rather use smoke signals, but I may have to consider joining, just to satisfy my overwhelming curiousity of gig photos.

Led Zeppelin tee's have to be some of the most popular printed tee's out there I recon. Up there with Iron Maiden and Metallica. I want to get myself a Jethro Tull t-shirt (you are now officially stepping into my inner monologue, enjoy...haha).

So what other big gigs you have on the cards for next year? I'm guessing NZ BDO won't be featuring...

That sound's like the life man, truly. 2010 will be a year to be remembered. What is money at the end of the day? And you're off to France? My eyes are slowly turning green Rich...

I would say your site has definatley shone a light on that hidden industry. Stonerdoom is one of music's best kept secret's I would say, and finally it seems that its getting the credit it deserves.

Karma to Burn? Haha, well they're just straight up rock n' roll, a band that you listen to and think "why the fuck doesn't everyone listen to this?". I'm more of a psychadelic girl myself, so tend to lean towards stoner rock/ desert rock more than my heavy cookie monster vocals unlike many blokes. You see, i'm not particularly blessed with words, so I hope you catch my drift lol.

Fuuuuckk, Roadburn has one irresistible line-up!!! argh, but it's in the Netherlands...hmm then again, I did see Pentagram in Denmark, but that wasn't at all planned....haha. hm, I shall consider it well, it does look like a proper dooooooom festival for sure in any case. Thorr's Hammer just couldn't stick to their word of a "one off" in August, could they :P good on them, i'd like to see them put out some more material..but Runhild said it would ruin their "cult status"..maybe it would. sweet, I'll check out those Swedes, cheers :) uhm, got tickets for Satyricon in December, just before I fuck off to my gran's village in Sicily, the most boring place EVER where all there is to do is eat and sleep, (the novelty of which wears off all too soon) but it's good to revise I guess, for exams in Jan, no distractions. A bit of doomy crust Trash Talk in my home city...great band...Brutality Will Prevail next year, they are reaaaallly worth checking out, Forgotten Soul is a WICKED album: http://www.mediafire.com/?elxdwuvkqyj listen to it start to finish..."Death" to "Pure Regret" is probably the most indulgently doomy moment on there. hmm I haven't been to Brixton acad. since 2007 so I can't remember what they're like with cameras, but there was one place where they were really nasty..maybe it was Astoria, no clue, should be alright thouuugh. Yeah sorry about this essay, I hope I haven't forgotten anything :) x

I have always been a bit of a pesimist when it came to New Zealand music. The music industry seems to take a liking to...let's say, shit music.
However, I'm starting to realise that I've been a close minded dick, and have started to lap up kiwi stoner doom to the max.
Volume 2 better? Sound's like a little challenge you've set yourself there, haha.

Oh, yeah, about the Netherland fest...I'm excersising some strong self discipline here, as to not curse at you, haha. Lucky lucky lucky bean you are. And Orange Goblin/Witch/Melvins tickets as well? I cried a little bit...lol, I would give anything (bar my liver and kidney) to see Orange Goblin in particular.

You're proper living the dream mate.

You woudn't believe how bad my internet connection can be sometimes, so i haven't managed to d/load the compilation yet. Will continue trying...

Would have loved to go to stonerfest, but im skint. Ludicrously skint...but maybe next year eh? Here's to hoping i learn the concept of "saving money". Females huh?!

The forum consumes a fair amount of my time, haha.. too many bands, not enough time!
Pretty hard checking out NZ bands, as we all know the exposure towards kiwi stonerdoom bands is pretty minimal.
I'll get there though...found a few good ones via the forum, but if you've got recommendations, i've got the fingers to do the google/youtube bashing.
