Sona Sound are two lads from Hull, UK... Waff & Pete. The boys have been producing their unique sound for 18 months and already have notable releases on Barcelona based labels Minimar Recordings and Documenti Sonari Records.
Pete has been a major figure on the underground scene in the city for over 9 years now and has played and held residencies at all of its major clubs, as well as appearances across the UK in Leeds, Newcastle and Manchester, and, in Europe, has graced decks in Ibiza and Copenhagen. Known mostly for his work co-promoting Hull's pioneering underground night, Our House, which was once described by Steve Lawler as ‘An underground gem in the North’, there’s no doubt his passion for the scene is put to fine use. The night hosted such DJs such as Steve Lawler, Jo Mills, Tom Neville, Justin Robertson, D'Julz, The Electric Press, Inland Knights and Tim Sheridan to name but a few, and was an institution for the regular crowd that never missed an event. Wanting to make the move from promotion to production, led Pete to his collaboration with long time friend, Waff.
Waff is the young party upstart that never says No to a good time. His knowledge of the music scene far out weighs his 20 years, and his talent and hard work have been rewarded with sets at long established house night Deja Vu, Sunset Bar (Thailand) and various other nights across the city such at Zebra Club and Revolution Bar. 2008 saw Waff start promoting his own Techno night, Koala, alongside local DJ and friend Matt Thornton, which has now established itself as one of the most successful underground events in the city.
Sona Sound’s latest EPs, released on Richard Belsom’s innovating new label, Phobic Records, include remixes by Rebekah and Inxec. Already the boys have gained production support from the likes of Nic Fanculli, Smokin’ Jo, Simon Baker and Bigger than Jesus, as well as being acknowledged by DJ Mag after only 3 months of production! Sona Sound’s distinctive studio technique fuses elements of Tribal, Minimal and Ethnic sounds to create their own unique style, which has proven to get dance floors throbbing.
2008 saw the duo play a number of high profile gigs across the city alongside such widely established DJs as Jens Bond, Kate Lawler, D’Ramirez, Audio Jack and Dan Doran. Already in 2009 Sona Sound have headlined at Sheffield’s successful Techno night, Fragment, and secured residencies in their home city at the Different Language Courtyard Parties and Koala Techno.
Moving forward in 2009 Sona Sound intend to continue work in their own studio pushing forward their productions and building their DJ profile within the UK.
