  • Bio

Son del Llano proudly revives the classic sounds of Havana, Puerto Rico, and New York with a sizzling blend of salsa, mambo, and Latin Jazz. The group originated in Lincoln, Nebraska in 2006. Original members René Paula (trés, vocals), Marcelo Arévalo (congas, vocals) and Justin G. Jones (timbales, vocals) pooled their musical experience and love of Latin music to create a sound unique to Nebraska and the Midwest: a traditional Cuban son conjunto. Veteran musicians Brian Morrow (bass), Mike Brownson (trumpet), Tom Harvill (piano), and Ed Love (woodwinds, percussion) completed the lineup. The group was soon highly popular with area music lovers and serious dancers alike. Upon René's departure from the group, Son del Llano broadened their sound to include the classic salsa and mambo sounds of New York and Puerto Rico, and Latin Jazz arrangements performed expertly by the band, all of whom also have deep jazz roots. Dedicated to quality in performance and enjoyment on the dance floor, Son del Llano continues to bring the sounds of Cuba and Latin America to Nebraska and the Midwest. ¡Para gozar la musica!

Bio:

Son del Llano revives the classic sounds of 1950’s and 60’s Havana, mingled with original salsa and elegant boleros. Fresh and authentic, drawing inevitable comparisons to the Buena Vista Social Club, the group’s arrival on the Lincoln, Nebraska music scene is causing heads to turn. Son del Llano features the distinctive vocals and trés stylings of René Paula. Before moving to the US, René was a mainstay on the Cuban music scene, performing with legendary artists such as Beny Moré, Felix Chappotín, and Miguelito Cuní. The group is rounded out by a complement of Lincoln’s top musicians. ..
