Son del Llano revives the classic sounds of 1950’s and 60’s Havana, mingled with original salsa and elegant boleros. Fresh and authentic, drawing inevitable comparisons to the Buena Vista Social Club, the group’s arrival on the Lincoln, Nebraska music scene is causing heads to turn. Son del Llano features the distinctive dual vocals of René Paula and Marcelo Arévalo. Rene, a native of Havana, is a master of the trés cubano. Before moving to the US, he was a mainstay on the Cuban music scene, performing with legendary artists such as Beny Moré, Felix Chappottín, and Miguelito Cuní. Marcelo comes to Lincoln from Viña del Mar, Chile where he was a regular perfomer on the salsa circuit and fronted his own band combining reggae, pop, and the music of Chile and Brazil. This multi-talented artist plays drums, bass, guitar, and piano in addition to his singing and percussion duties with Son del Llano. The group is rounded out by a complement of Lincoln’s top musicians: Justin G. Jones on timbales, bongos, percussion, and coros; Brian Morrow on bass and coros; Mike Brownson on trumpet; and Tom Harvill on piano.
