Comprised of some of the Inland Northwest's finest and most diverse musicians, Son Dulce (which means Sweet Sound) shatters the standards of Spokane's Latin Music Scene. Early in 2007, this 10-piece ensemble debuted in full force, surprising professional salsa dancers, music fans, as well local musicians with a fresh intensity. Their event calendar quickly filled as a result.
"One of the reasons this band has turned out to be such an instant success," states Vocalist Jennifer Vigil, "is due to the fact that we strive to maintain the purity of the music. It has to be REAL SALSA if it's going to appeal to the Latin community, and to people who are looking for REAL SALSA." Adds Bassist Armando Arguello, "The emphasis here is on musicianship, so the music speaks for itself. With each member complementing the next, we're able to produce a very rich, energetic sound. So far there's been nothing like it in Spokane, and we'll keep working to maintain that edge."
There's no doubt that this group has captured the attention of the area's music aficionados, club owners, and event planners with its authentic sound. Comprised of members of The Spokane Jazz Orchestra, Jigsaw Republic (JSR), Groove Patrol, Six Foot Swing, Luna's, Jupiter Effect, and the original Milonga, Son Dulce has some pretty high standards to maintain. The result has been a list of performances that leave fans and venue patrons wondering what just hit the city. "Is this really happening?!" shouted Mootsy's patron Matt Irvin during the December 14th show. "Are you guys for real?!"
It's for real. It's authentic. It's tight, and it's full of energy. Check out the event calendar for the next opportunity to be a part of the frenzy. Spread the word. Salsa music has arrived in Spokane!
