This is a band made up of people who live on the Boundary Estate in East London ... anyone who lives or works on Arnold Circus can join!
Over the last few months our Boundary Estate band have been meeting every Monday night and attempting to create a song (or as it's turned out songs) that says something about Arnold Circus and the Estate where everyone in the band lives or works.
It's been quite an erratic process with a shifting set of players. Our musical range includes a fantastic cross section of instruments from a sitar to a pair of spoons, and we have an array of talents from the highly musical to the enthusiastic amateur.
Each week those of us at the rehearsal try out different experiments with the instruments and voices to hand, and Tim (the project composer) records off anything we want to save. During the following week he works up the various samples and the next week we try to layer new material over his framework.
We've used all sorts of source material from lists to novels and free association about the Estate. In one of the pieces above you can hear us all reading from a fantastic list of jobs we found that everyone who lived in the Jago (the slum that the Boundary Estate replaced) did before all their houses were knocked down and pushed into the mound under the bandstand.
It's been a fascinating process to hear how lots of different people feel about the area and discover its hidden secrets from the lost animal markets of Club Row to 'A Child of the Jago'.
Our last official rehearsal and recording session took place on Saturday the 15th of March at the Bandstand. Now Tim is making a final version of our song to be launched shortly on the AGRIFASHIONISTA.TV website and of course on this page.
If you're reading this after that date do still get in touch if you'd like to join as there's a good chance we will continue to play together.

I can't wait for the song. i think what you are doing is inspiring and incredible and we love you. We will of course when we have more friends to make it worthwhile put some bulletins and things like that out. Much love The Citizens
I'm so sorry guys, I have been in the country for a little while but I am back. Listen we're having a meet-up next month. Why don't you come down and tell everyone about what you are doing as well. You would be more than welcome. I really think what you have is a great idea to get people involved in something, and I'd love to help you in any way that I can xxx
