   About Songhurst Guitars

.. Danny Songhurst is the founder of Songhurst Guitars. Danny has a long history of restoring everything from pre 1941 hot rods to Victorian era houses, his true passion lies in guitars. His Uncle Mark owned a guitar shop that specialized in high end and vintage guitars. Mark introduced Danny to a wealth of trade secrets and setup/repair work from an early age. Unfortunately, Mark passed away in 2006.

Danny attempted to build his first electric guitar at the age of 15 with no instructions using only some leftover decking material that was available to him - a 2x12 and a 2x4. While the 2x12 guitar did not work out the way he imagined, it inspired him to become a guitar builder. He has since chiseled his way to perfection in woodworking, now Songhurst Guitars offers some of the most beautiful, rich sounding, and timeless boutique guitars available.

Every Songhurst guitar is built by Danny start to finish. From hand selecting the perfect tonewood to the final passes with the buffing pad, nothing is overlooked. Songhurst guitars are true boutique instruments, at peak production, only 20 or so are crafted annually. Every guitar must be a masterpiece before it can be shipped with the Songhurst name on it.

Players:

Night after night on stages all over the country and abroad, musicians are confident that their Songhurst Guitar will perform reliably, provide warm diverse tone, and look beautiful. At Songhurst Guitars we are proud to have some of the hardest working professional musicians in the industry using our instruments. Tyrone Wells, Derek Stroker, Mike Kopulos and Mike Frederick are just a few of our touring and recording musicians. We are also excited to bring Keaton Simons onto the players list, his signature guitar is in the formative design stages right now.

As a result of the quality craftsmanship and the amazing sound of our guitars we have also been approached by multiple successful recording studios. Any high end recording studio knows they need to have an impressive line up of guitars on their wall. Ear Witness Studio in L.A. has just that, which is why we are honored to be building a beautiful, custom cherry burst Modern Cut to hang on their wall next to some other very fine instruments.

Songhurst Guitars Exclusive Warranty:

Songhurst Guitars is proud to offer an unparalleled warranty. We guarantee all instruments against faulty craftsmanship. If anything abnormal happens we will take care of it free of charge. This warranty is transferable if the instrument is ever sold.

We fully understand that accidents sometimes happen. That is why every Songhurst Guitar also comes with free accident repair for the original owner. What does this mean to you?

If you play it so much that you wear out the frets, we will replace them for you. If you drop it and break the headstock, we will repair it. If you come home from a long day to find that your two year old took the keys to your finish and destroyed it, we will refinish it for you. Whatever the case, you are taken care of as a Songhurst Guitars customer. Accident repairs are honored for a full 10 years for the original owner.

Pricing and Info:

All guitars come with hand wound Amalfitano pickups. Jerry Amalfitano is recognized by many as one of the best boutique pickup makers of our time. Each pickup is scatter wound by hand and makes a perfect marriage with Songhurst Guitars. Jerry makes all styles of pickups and hand winds them to order for all of our guitars. We can ensure you will get the exact tone you want. http://www.amalfitanopickups.com/

HO = High output pickups. Great for rock and heavier music.
VO = Vintage output, equivalent to those 50's and 60's guitars we all love.
CB = Chambered Body
HB = Hollow Body

All models come standard with a 12-16 compound radius on the fingerboard. We have found that to be the best feeling and the most functional. Other options are available.

Neck options:

We offer 3 nut widths to accommodate every player. Our "skinny" neck has a 1 & 11/16-inch nut width. Our "medium" neck has a 1 & 3/4-inch nut width. Our "wide" neck has a 1 & 13/16-inch nut width. Additionally, you can specify if you want a modern thin neck carve or a vintage fat neck carve.

Classic Cut Guitars:

The Classic 22 VO is perfect for players who prefer a vintage style single cut, you will feel right at home. The 24 3/4-inch scale combined with Amalfitano PAF pickups provide all the rich tone you would expect from an instrument like this. It is 100% hand crafted with vintage style hide glue and finished with Nitrocellulose Lacquer.

The Classic 22 VO CB is a lighter version of the Classic 22 VO. It could be considered a solid body/hollow body hybrid. While it is slightly louder unplugged, the difference is hardly noticeable when amplified. The real difference is the weight.

The Classic 22 VO HB is made from 100% solid wood, hand carved inside and out. This guitar has natural acoustic qualities and produces rich, clear tones when amplified.

The Classic 24 HO features a full 24 fret neck. It has a higher output and comes standard with slightly overwound alnico 2 pickups or alnico 5 pickups.

Classic 22 VO $3,399.00

Classic 22 VO CB (Chambered Body) $3,599.00

Classic 22 VO HB (Hollow Body) $5,299.00

Classic 24 HO $3,399.00

Classic Gold $3,699.00

The Classic Gold captures the 50’s with it’s tone and looks. It has just a few modern features to ensure that it will be the best playing guitar you have ever picked up. This guitar would be a great addition for any collector, or for any player who loves rich, warm tone.

This guitar is made with old growth wood and assembled with hide glue. It starts with a maple top that is thicker than most. This allows for a dramatic, comfortable, and unique carve. Hand wound Amalfitano P90’s take care of the rest.

Many builders today use a mica powder, coated in a thick polyurethane finish. That is not the correct way to do a vintage style goldtop. The fine bronze powder we use is true to the well known 50’s color, it shows a slight green iridescence just like the originals. To ensure proper aging, it is coated in nitrocellulose lacquer.

Modern Cut Guitars:

The Modern 22 VO is ideal for any guitarist. It is diverse, sleek, and full of curves that you will never get tired of. Touring and gigging musicians will especially appreciate the weight and comfort. The 25-inch scale is extremely easy to play and the deep cutaway makes for unobstructed upper fret access. Amalfitano PAF's sound amazing with this wood and are standard in all VO models.

The Modern 22 VO CB is a lighter version of the Modern 22 VO. It could be considered a solid body/hollow body hybrid. While it is slightly louder unplugged, the difference is hardly noticeable when amplified. The real difference is the weight.

The Modern 22 VO HB is made from 100% solid wood, hand carved inside and out. This guitar has natural acoustic qualities and produces rich, clear tones when amplified.

The Modern 24 HO features a full 24 fret neck. It has a higher output and comes standard with slightly overwound alnico 2 pickups or alnico 5 pickups.

The Modern 22 Flat top is a perfect compromise for guitarists who like the look of a modern style double cut, but prefer the feel of a flat top. It is available with three single coil pickups or two Humbuckers.

Modern 22 VO $3,399.00

Modern 22 VO CB (Chambered Body) $3,599.00

Modern 22 VO HB (Hollow Body) $5,299.00

Modern 24 HO $3,399.00

Modern 22 Flat Top SC $2,999.00

Songcaster Model:

The Songcaster is a wonderful choice for guitarists who prefer a classic style flat top. It has a 25.5-inch scale for a little tighter feel and brighter tone. The body is made of old growth mahogany topped with figured maple. This guitar comes standard with Amalfitano PAF's.

The Songcaster HB is amazingly light weight but not neck heavy. It produces warm, clear tones and is a great fit for any guitarist, especially those who are big fans of thinline style electrics.

Songcaster $2,999.00

Songcaster Hollow Body $3,799.00

Signature Model Guitars:

Tyrone Wells $5,899.00

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with Tyrone to create his signature model guitar. My goal was to come up with something classic looking but original. He liked the hollowbody made by a well-known company so we started with that basic look and took it to the next level.

It was brought to my attention that most production companies that produce Archtop guitars use laminated wood (plywood) to save money. They press and form the plywood in steam moulds to create a carved look. In reality, they are not carved at all. Even the well known manufacturer who originally made this style of guitar now uses pressed plywood on nearly every hollowbody model.

I wanted to build Tyrone the finest quality instrument possible. My research led me to Dan Adams, a renowned cello builder who has been making fine stringed instruments longer than Tyrone or myself have been alive. Dan worked with me on several age-old techniques that helped make Tyrone’s dream guitar a reality.

This instrument is made from solid western big leaf maple and solid old growth mahogany. The top and back are 100% hand carved using vintage style wood gouges and finger planes. The deep dish cello carve makes this instrument appealing to the eye and a true one of a kind.

Mike Kopulos $3,999.00

Mike Kopulos is a professional session player and touring musician. He is also the grandson in-law of Donald Leslie, the man who invented the Leslie rotating speaker! He plays all kinds of songs for people in many genres. He needed a guitar that was simple to operate, had diverse tone options and was light weight.

The Mike Kopulos Signature Model is made from ultra light old growth mahogany and a figured western maple top. It is a full hollow body except for a key portion that prevents most feedback. We did this since he is in a touring rock band and plays loud at times. The pickups are alnico VO with the coil tap option so he can get a rich single coil sound for certain songs without having to switch guitars.
