........ ..Please note that all Song Loft events start at 20:15. My Space event listing only allows times on the hour or half hour. ........ ..We now have a group on Facebook called "Friends of the Song Loft". ........ ..The Song Loft is held fortnightly in the Cock Hotel, which is situated in the historic market town of Stony Stratford. Back in the 1960's there was Stony Stratford Folk Club, which closed in 1970. In 1976 The Song loft came to be. The name was chosen as not all the music would be strictly 'folk' and there was certainly no requirement to be a 'member'. So, 'The Song Loft' was born, as describing best what goes on in 'The Loft'. .. ..Over the years the Loft has seen them all: the greats of British folk music, touring Americans and Australians, Bluesmen, Bluegrass bands and even the odd play. Prior to the re-opening it had been decided that admission should cost roughly the price of two drinks in 1976, 5/- (25 pence). The charges are still by that same yardstick, and today £7.00 is the usual cost for most guest evenings, with extra for 'special' guest nights. The cost may have risen but the intention remains the same - to bring to Stony Stratford the best, musical, live entertainment, with a 'folky' bias but not exclusively so. On reflection, we believe we have succeeded in this. .. ..The Song Loft has a strong reputation in supporting singers "from the floor" and many a talent has been "discovered" at the Loft. Floor singers are welcome to have a go at most of our evenings, especially our "Singer's Nights", which normally alternate with our guest nights. An added bonus is that it only £2 to get in on these evenings. .. ..'Normal' performances are in a comfortable function room of the Cock Hotel. However, there is access to a hall (also part of the Cock Hotel) for larger events, such as the Song Loft's participation in the annual, week-long musical festival known as Stony Live!. .. ..Since its formation, the Song Loft has been run by Matt Armour, ably assisted by his wife Jane and Colin Turner. Sadly Matt passed away in February 2009, initially casting doubt over the future of the Loft. However a group of longtime supporters of the venue have now banded together, with the aim of keeping it going. There may well be changes, but it will continue, hopefully for many years to come. Watch this space for further news. .. ..The organisers are: Jane Armour, Colin Turner, Brian Peckett, Penny Lines-Peckett, Bill and Barbara Reed and Maurice and Maria Clark. .. ..If you require any further information please Email: songloft@googlemail.com......

Looking forward to Friday, 11th September when The Song Loft re-opens for the Winter season. Matt would normally have done the opening night himself, so it will be a great honour for me and my band to be singing a whole evening of his wonderful songs.
    See you there!
