" And finally, Casador’s self-released The Puritans EP. A solo work that recalls some of the desolate majesty of his friends A Classic Education, it’s apparently a modern view on the story of the sword of Damocles. And very fine it is too. His blog links to a video of The National, and it’s easy to see a shared aesthetic here, though I admit that I have always struggled with The National, and Casador is immeasurably preferable for me if only because his songs seem much less rooted in rock orthodoxy. And with two songs for free download, what have you got to lose?" (Alistair Fitchett - Unpopular)
"...Story Of Damocles starts with a buzzing radio, then moves into delicate backing and Alessandro’s gorgeous choral voice, sounding like Sigur Ros in a more relaxed moment. The piano sounds slightly funereal, yet somehow uplifting as it moves the tune along, like fog across a misty moor. Some lovely harmonica comes in towards the end to finish the song on a suitably maudlin note. The Puritans is more straight forward, a brooding pop song almost. Vocally there’s a touch of Colin Meloy this time, but with murk to the edges to keep it special. Its great in its difference to most tunes out there."
(Russell’s reviews)
"...The songs are delicate introspections with lovely melodies carried on Alessandro’s clear vocals. On his MySpace page next to “Sounds Like” he has simply inserted a photo of a flock of birds taking off–which is oddly accurate. His music sounds fresh, heart-lifting, and natural all at once. On first hearing the two songs, I bought the EP immediately, I was that impressed. See if you don’t feel the same." (Speed of Dark))
"...Argentinian born, Italian based, friends with A Classic Education and coming across as a folky, desolate version of their ambitions." (Sweeping the Nation)
"...And moody-but-beautiful musical business it is--a shuffly, echoey, minor-key lament, with a crispness and sense of purpose not often found in independently produced debut EPs. And yes, "The Puritans" manages to be both echoey and crisp at the same time, which is not an ordinary accomplishment." (Fingertips Music)
"...Here's a first! There's only two songs on the EP, but they're absolutely beautiful. The guy is definitely very talented, and we should keep a close eye on his future!" (Music of the Moment)
"Just got this in the mail this morning, and I'm already in love with it. Alessandro (aka Casador) describes himself perfectly." (Fabulist!)
"...These songs float in between Radiohead’s clautrophobic mood and the absolute emotional impact of Sufjan Stevens. The result is two tracks that gather the power of classic songwriting, folk roots and a little recall of The National’s new wave attitude." (Junkiepop)
Casador - The Puritans - directed by Elisa Fabris - 2009
Casador it's me (Alessandro Raina) + very special friends and guests. I was born in Argentina in late 70's. I live in Italy, the glamorous land that (in a funk) sings an aria of disappointment.
In December 2008 I released a critically acclaimed digital EP. The Puritans features 3 songs that were immediatly spotted on the most important indie blogs and web sites, including Sweeping The Nation, Unpopular, The Hype Machine, Russel’s Review etc. etc.
An italian/european tour has followed. I've shared the stage with Wilco, Shannon Wright, Elvis Perkins, Ra Ra Riot, Sparklehorse, Piano Magic, Micah P. Hinson and many others.

"Sweep thy faint strings Musician, With thy long lean hand; Downward the starry tapers burn, Sinks sof the waining sand; The old hound whimpers couched in sleep, Across the walls the shawdows Come and go.
Swee softley they strings, Musician, The minutes mount to hours; Frost on the windless casement weaves A labyrith of flowers; Ghosts linger in the darkening air, Hearken at the open door; Music hath called them dreaming, Home once more."
