Song Writer’s Fest Opens Registration for 2008 Season
Nashville,TN March 9, 2008
Songwriters of every genre converge on Music Row for The Nashville
SongWriters Festival on the third week of June, each year. It’s part
festival, part music conference, part business networking opportunity and
part gathering of old friends. Tune smiths share their original music on
multiple outdoor stages and Open Sing Rings located directly on Music
Row. Writers can also attend classes, workshops, and Q & A sessions
about the craft and business of songwriting between jam sessions. Another
fest feature is the Open House held by participating music related
businesses where writers drop by to ask questions, exchange samples or
discuss what part they play in the music biz. The live performances,
education and Open House are concurrently running events. Attendees take in
all or parts and can play it by ear.
"The fest is open to all forms of songwriting, from the novice to the
professional. There are no pre qualifications to play or attend.
Everyone is encouraged to come as they are. All attendees will have the
opportunity to share their words or music and find their place in the mix.
The festival is not a contest or competition which makes for a more
relaxing creative atmosphere,"says festival producer Cornelius “Popcornâ€
Robertson. There is no set registration fee to attend the fest, Each
individual determines how they can contribute to help be a part of the
music magic."
"Last year Curb Music, Artist Partners and others helped out with stage
locations. Staff writers from Sony/BMG, Warner-Chappell/Ash Street
Music, Curb and many others chipped in some top notch songwriting talent,
Brian White, Dillon Dixon, Don Poythress, Billy Montana to name a few."
Popcorn continues, "Industry professionals Dave Gibson, Stan Web, and
others hit writers hosted sessions at the Writers Retreat. Sure Fire
Music participated in the Open House and so on. ASCAP, BMI and SESAC
writers all came together. Publishers, recording studios, producers, song
pluggers, managers, and others were in attendance as a broad spectrum of
the industry, past, present and future were there getting the feel."
"This June 20-22, another historical gathering begins to shape up as
Stella Parton (27+ charted songs) to Guitar master Boomer Castleman
(inventor of the Palm Pedal guitar) throw down at this years congregation to
celebrate the spirit of the songwriter. Many special guest and
surprises await but the real featured writer is you, as we glimpse into the
past, present and future of songwriting together."

Popcorn and all - We - K-Squared - enjoyed playing the Festival. It was a treat to see Tom T. again. I worked with he and Dixie for about 5 years AND they introduced me to my husband. so as we performed at the Fest - Hugged on Tom T. and celebrated our 15 year anniversary - all seemed right in the world!!! HUGS! Karen

We had an amazing time at the SongFest! Many thanks - especially for adding the Cocaine booth (an eye opening drink - to say the least).
Also, we were asked, by more than a few SongFest newcomers: “How should men songwriters treat women songwriters?”
Well, after a week of indiscriminate thought our answer is: with equality of course.
In other words, male songwriters may extend various courtesies to female songwriters but only those courtesies you would extend to another male songwriter. (Lighting her cigarette, holding a door open, etc.) Whether you should fondle her knee or run your hand up under her skirt is another question. Health concerns being what they are these days, we really don’t know what you would do with a male songwriter in a skirt under similar circumstances.
Just wanted to say once again to Popcorn, Regina, Deb Z and every staff member that helped out the Fest....THANK YOU!!! The Fest of 2008 was surely Great!!!

Popcorn, We had a great time at the festival. If Keeli doesn't find the photos, we have many we can share and I'm sure others do also. Good to see everyone again.
Thanks to everyone for such a grand songwriters festival! I personally want to thank all the sound folks for such a professional job! And for saving the best for last!! I am looking forward to being able to share a couple of tunes next year !! BJ Allen
Thanks back your way...some thoughts...the sound at each stage was the best overall for the years I have been coming. Things flowed this year, too. Everything moved right along...and the talent, from beginners to the top dogs was very good. This is one of the best fests going, not because of size, but, because of what is accomplished with each writer. I came away with much more than I brought. Already looking forward to next year...and I hope to be in better shape, too.
