Vocalist and composer Sonia Szajnberg (yep, you got it, shine-berg), finds her home in Brooklyn, NY where she performs with her own band in venues throughout the area. Her soon to be released EP “Simple Talk” features Sonia’s original music as well as her own arrangements of some of her favorite songs in the standard jazz repertoire.

Sonia was recently selected from an international pool of musicians to participate in the 2009 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency where she had the incredible opportunity to workshop and perform her own compositions and those of her colleagues at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Sonia is also a recipient of a Downbeat Student Music Award for Outstanding Performance in Jazz Voice and an NFAA Arts Award for Merit in Jazz Voice (2001).

Sonia holds a Bachelors Degree from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music where she studied with her mentor, Dena DeRose and is currently pursuing a dual Master’s degree in performance and education at the Manhattan School of Music where she is privileged to be studying with Theo Bleckmann and Kate McGarry.
