I started this show with the intent of getting great punk bands some exposure , and after several episodes, I realized that I needed to also include bands that I like from other genres.
My name is TJ Welch and this show is my concept. I am also the founding member of Boston bands The Blue Bloods and The Welch Boys.
The program is posted on this web site (click "view my videos" underneath the red Sonic Lobotomy logo on the upper left part of this page to see each show) Monthly episodes are added as we produce them. Each hour long show has been divided into segments for viewing on the web.
My aim is to spotlight bands and performers from both the Boston area, and the world. The show features music that is often against the grain and under the radar. Every month, Sonic Lobotomy tapes a new episode. Each show features live performances, and interviews. Past episodes have included Darkbuster, The Freeze, Jason Bennet and the Resistance, The Hudson Falcons, Drago, 26 Beers, and The Bloodshot Hooligans, Gary Lammin of Cock Sparrer, and Three Day Threshold, The Ramoniacs, and Township.
Sonic Lobotomy is shot at the Comcast Community Access cable studios in Danvers Ma., with high quality cameras, lights, and mics and mixers. This is a program that celebrates the underground. Sonic lobotomy embraces minimalism, therefore, there is no makeup or neon lights to distract viewers from the thing that really counts, the performance. We strive to make the performers look and sound the best we can, given the restrictions of our budget and time. We also make an effort to get inside the artist’s heads with the show’s interview segment.
Sonic Lobotomy is completely nonprofit. I do the show because I love the bands. The program is shot live in the studio, then edited and distributed. It airs on several major community access cable systems in communities throughout New England. Sonic Lobotomy also gains exposure through various web video outlets. The program has its own Youtube and web page ( www.soniclobotomy.com) as well. Bands that appear on the show also are allowed to use the material for their own needs.
I couldn’t do the show all by myself. I am fortunate to have the support of the employees of Danvers Community Access Television, and the use of their studios.
The show also employs the talents of various volunteer members of the Danvers Community Access Television.
